Re: Truly Scary Stuff

To follow up on what Frank says, slavery is what in the end destroyed the South. If they had invested money in actual stuff, like railroads, factories, kewl machines that let one man instead of 8 harvest a field of wheat . . . that would have meant more than all those stupid "going back in time...

Re: Combat Healing, a poll of sorts.

There's lots of stuff that "might" be combat healing in our folklore, it's just hard to tell b/c stories aren't nicely broken down into "combat actions" and "stuff that happens in story-time". Frexample - Aragorn stops the poison/disease/expanding evil in little Frodo. ...

Re: Combat Healing, a poll of sorts.

That's a good point. IMO, though, healing doesn't contribute to leangthy combat nearly as much as:[br][br]1. Multiple attacks/round[br]2. Status effects (that almost always seem to knock out hte damage dealers), and[br]3. Spells and abilities that no one really knows about and make you hunt through ...

Re: Combat Healing, a poll of sorts.

Mass Heal awesome. With buffs, I like that idea - but not Bless, that's not even worth casting as it is.

That'd let healers turn the tide of battle, and at least be doing something positive w/ a heal instead of just playing a zero-sum game.

Re: A card-style system of spellcasting

I'm just saying, most game companies would see a card-based system and immediately decide to put some "basic" (i.e., usable, but not extraordinary) cards in the game, and then follow the MtG model of printing up money. I mean, new cards.

Re: Point-based / Class-based systems of advancement

I don't know why you can't just rechoose things as you level. As in, everything - classes, feats, skills, whatever. What game-driving benefit comes from past choices being static? AFAICT, it's mostly b/c Gygax liked laughing at people who choose to be Half-Orc Wizards.

Re: A card-style system of spellcasting

That's a nice idea, Lago. But why does it have to be cardbased? Maybe I'm missing something, but couldn't you set this up as a feat-based casting system? [br][br]You could vary between base powers and modifiers by level. Say, eveyr 3rd level was a base power, the other levels were modifier powers. O...

Re: What the hell is wrong with BAB?

I also don't get why varied AC's is an advantage, at least in the sense that you seem to be arguing. If your AC is bad, you should get hit a lot. If your AC is good, you shouldn't be hit a lot. Making that change based on whether you're getting hit w/ a 1st or 4th attack, though? I don't get it.[br]...

Re: What the hell is wrong with BAB?

Why does BAB decrease, though? If having 4 attacks that could, maybe, hit is overpowering, then fighters should just have 3 attacks that can hit. Giving people extra attacks that suck is just lame. Why make the game last longer so people can try to get a nat 20 on an attack roll?

I don't know if y'all are up to speed on our new strategy for Iraq (Death Squads modelled after El Salvadore's priest- and nun-killers). It's bad. Very bad. The only truly fun thing about high-caster level for wizards I've done is using Wail o' Banshee. Kill off a small town, or large one.

Re: What the hell is wrong with BAB?

Good idea, but I can't believe that's why, though. There's way too many things becoming uber or suck-ass b/c of a single level gain. Druids, for example. One day they're wandering around using spears, the next they're bashing things as Dire Lions. Hmmm. Or Barbarians. Eventually, they kill that one ...

Spell locks are the key. Amp your reflexes, then kick ass on stuff w/ weapons, the damaging spells aren't necessarily that kewl, and suck up a lot of resources you could blow on other stuff. Depending on the campaign, make sure you have lots of ways to find stuff out.

Re: Ess' Project Class #10: The Fighter

I think focusing Fighters on feats was a mistake. Feats are intended to, and generally do, allow variation within a class. But they don't generally add as much power as a class-granted ability. For example, few, if any, feats are going to match +4 to str/con for several rounds. And if they did, the ...

What Up With Ever-Increasing Piles of Gold?

The New Years thread started me thinking about gold and how much of it adventurers get, and how it is a component of PC power. This whole concept is lame. [br][br] 1. Wealth=Magic Items [br][br]In 3.x, money is pointless on its own. Each level, a high-level PC gets about the annual income of a large...
