Re: [lets play] Fighting Fantasy (Scholastic 16): Assassins of Allansia.

You lift the lid to find a small iron key with the number 44 stamped on it. You see it is a skeleton key which will open most locks. Add 1 LUCK point. Pleased with your find, you pocket the key and look around the cave. ------------------------------------------------ There is a pile of stones in a...

Re: [lets play] Fighting Fantasy (Scholastic 16): Assassins of Allansia.

We continue over to the cupboard by coin toss. The cupboard door is slightly ajar. You open it further with the tip of your sword and see a crimson-glazed clay pot with a cracked lid. Do you want to lift the lid off the pot or would you rather not touch the pot and instead look around the cave ?

Re: [lets play] Fighting Fantasy (Scholastic 16): Assassins of Allansia.

You pass by a dead tree devoid of bark and leaves where a skeleton hand is hanging on a rusty nail hammered into the trunk. The bones are well weathered, dark ochre in colour, and look to have been hanging on the nail for years. Do you want to lift the dismembered hand off the nail or would you rat...

We leave the suspicious ring behind. You fill the tin jug with water from the rainwater traps outside and can’t stop thinking about the attempt on your life. After quenching your thirst, you decide to go in search of food. You are very hungry, having eaten only a bit of fish the previous day. Lose 1...

You find a small circular brass box with a hinged lid concealed in a hidden pocket inside the Knife Fighter’s robes. There is a silver ring inside the box. Do you want to try on the ring or would you rather begin your quest for food for the third day?

Re: [lets play] Fighting Fantasy (Scholastic 16): Assassins of Allansia.

Poition of Strength wins by half a vote. Slashing with a sword wins on a tiebreak coin toss. (running outside just gives him a free attack, not much difference.) You swing your sword through the darkness, and feel it strike home. A man’s muffled cry breaks the silence, and you hear the intruder stum...

Re: [lets play] Fighting Fantasy (Scholastic 16): Assassins of Allansia.

The inclusion of provisions is not just a simple copy/paste mistake of an early ruleset as the book does refer to them while you're still on the island. As with Port of Peril starvation is not going to last very long or be very important. The coin lands on the floor, and you hear soft footsteps foll...

So rolling the character we have 9 Skill 21 Stamina 11 Luck Slightly worse than Harry. You feel a draught of cool air on your face caused by the door opening and quickly closing again. Re: [lets play] Fighting Fantasy (Scholastic 16): Assassins of Allansia.

OK, the ruleset is copper plate rules from early Fighting fantasies, look at the LP for City of Thieves if you're unfamiliar with that. This includes a Potion of Strength, Skill or Fortune and 10 Provisions but no gold. As will quickly be pointed out you're starving. I assume that provisions, whilst...

Re: [lets play] Fighting Fantasy (Scholastic 16): Assassins of Allansia?

OK I will. Probably won't get the background and first paragraph up until tomorrow, but I'll give a decision in the meantime. Are we Harry Balzac, the hero of The Port of Peril ? (Skill 10, Stamina 20, Luck 11) or do you want to roll a new character? The game is very ambiguous about whether you are ...

Re: [lets play] Fighting Fantasy (Scholastic 16): Assassins of Allansia?

I'd say better than Eye of the Dragon, Port of Peril and Blood of the Zombies, worse than everything else, and at least one section is clearly designed for small boys who like toilet humour. If you play it straight it's a pretty linear "one true path or you're dead" due to a Blood of the Z...

[lets play] Fighting Fantasy (Scholastic 16): Assassins of Allansia.

Anybody interested in this one? It hasn't been done yet, but fair warning: it's not good. It's not Gates of Death/Sky Lord/Luke Sharp level bad though.

For some reason, the book basically checks the same map reference twice (we couldn't have gotten to this section without knowing the map reference).

You can get there by approaching City of Storms in flying robot: there's a 1/3 chance of being moved off course to CoG

Asking Lord Varen for soldiers was actually the right choice, since it helps the player's army win the battle against the Beast Men. Another way is to avoid all attempts to recruit an army, which enables you to infiltrate the beast mans camp after saving some villagers from a wicker man, this makes...

The guy in the first picture has a torn hankie

All you hear him say is the end of the man's name, "...garl, see you then."

(The optimal strategy is to try and use Istu in combat at every opportunity after the Mirror Demon encounter (in some cases by looking for extra fights where necessary, like joining the Dwarven axemen to fight the Toa-Suo up close) so that we can "use him up" before this encounter, and th...

Re: [Let's Play] Fighting Fantasy 36 – Armies of Death

I would go with Zen-Kut-Sedatche it makes sense with the previous playthrough, the stats match (even though we didn't see them) and what we're doing in raising an army seems appropriate for a "Warlord". We also are going to fight a band of Chaos Champions later if we survive that long.

Re: [Let's Play] Fighting Fantasy 36 – Armies of Death

Since we won the Trial of Champions we must be either the Eastern Warlord or the Chaos Champion, as they're the only contestants not canonically dead from the other playthrough. We can't be the Chaos Champion. He was at SKILL 11 STAMINA 12 in the book. Ben Richards didn't fight him, as far as the p...
