Re: Another balancing Magic thread

The 1st idea is very 1st/2nd Ed thing to do. Fuck the PCs, they are just schlubs who decided that they were willing to accept a higher risk for a greater reward (murder hoboing) than the time honored tradition of crap farming. That's not a very 1e/2e mentality. In AD&D, one of the core power co...

Another balancing Magic thread

So I've been toying with the idea of trying to run a D&D style Fantasy Heartbreaker using the SR4 skills Mechanic, and the Alt.War damage system. Basically I want a fantasy game that encourages planning and tactics, and less stupid. Also, I want scaling HPs to die. Getting stabbed by a peasant w...

Just noticed this shit: Memorizing a spell is a difficult task that requires a clear head from a good night’s sleep and 10 minutes of effort per level of the spell (see the Player’s Handbook, Chapter 7). WTF!! so it takes a 20th level wizard 30hrs to memorize his spells for the day assuming he isn't...

Same thing dragons have always hoarded: Power. Dragons are Apex predators. They crave power, and the life of leisure. You can wipe out demihumans, but then who is going to raise herds of tasty livestock? The demihumans develop currency, and the dragons being smart enough, understand that sometimes i...

For example: An Archery Spam character is not only going to be taking all of their iterative attacks every turn, they are going to take to-hit penalties in order to take extra attacks. But they still don't care about Weapon Focus: Composite Longbow. A Ring of Blink is +2 to-hit and denies the enemy...

The other big Pro in Netrunner's favor, was that starter decks were well balanced, and you didn't have to shell out a crazy amount of cash (unlike Pokemon, MtG) to be competitive.

I think you just need to approach this as a new spell. Think about what you want to happen mechanically and less about patching holes. IE. Polymorph should give you new movement mode options. " access to common creature abilities. " special puzzle solving abilities within reason. (no wish)...

Necromancy should be hailed as a means of bringing Utopia to the people. Think, never having to engage in base work again, let the zombies and other animated corpses do the sanitation and manufacturing work. Let the undead do the farming and transporting of goods. Lets have the dead serve the living...

a d20 is RNG w/ 5% increments, just use 2d10 as a percentile roll. just make your hits average 55% and adjust in 5% increments. it's the same as saying that you will base your numbers on hitting on 11 with minor +1s the only thing that the d20 gets you is slightly quicker dice rolls, and maybe easie...

d6 d10 and d12 all have reasonable uses. d6 is common and cubes are cool and easy to produce. d10 allows for easy odds to be calculated and 2d10 makes for easy percentile. d12 is and sort of an oddball, but not really when you take into account duodecimal systems of math or time. or degrees. d4, d8 ...

Frank's living in Prague has probably made him very sensitive to sentence structure and especially pronoun use.

My friend, who works with Czechs, has commented on more than one occasion of their annoyance with the vagueness of English pronouns.
