Re: Explain template/shapechange/POA stacking for me, please

You want that Permanent duration that you could not get with one PAO. You want the first PAO to affect the duration of the second one, thereby changing the second spell's effect from short-ish to "permanent." You want to ignore the rules on combining magical effects. [br][br]He's not igno...

Re: Explain template/shapechange/POA stacking for me, please

I think we may be getting too caught up in the programming metaphor...[br][br]K, like I stated before, I can understand the motivation, but this really is an open-and-shut case. All the overlapping effects rules in the world don't render poly-stacking illegal, because when it comes to it, the more s...

Re: Explain template/shapechange/POA stacking for me, please

K, the problem is, neither one of those explanations actually supports your argument. [br][br]So, the "Same effect with differing results" spell puts the earlier Polymorph on into the background until the later effect ends (if it ever does). That doesn't tell us anything about what happens...

Haven't read it, but it sounds like you could kill it with bottles of alchemist fire, or for that matter shadow creations of gallons and gallons of acid. [br][br]Doesn't that apply to...just about everything, though?[br][br]In any case, the assessment is correct. Nothing special here, unless you're...

Re: CR should equal Hit Dice

That is clever. Kind of makes me wonder why they haven't done it already. [br][br]I actually like this idea, too, but I can see where there might be some difficulties. One such difficulty might be establishing a minimum CR for some creature abilities, since of course there are some abilities that a...

Those two examples have been pointedly removed from the 3.5 SRD, with the sentence in question ending in a period after the word "position". [br][br]That's...extremely odd. The addition of those two examples in the 3.5 DMG makes it extremely clear regarding the meaning of "shifting p...

So apparently, the literal meaning of the Defensive Stance is that you can't leave the plane you are on in order to keep the defensive bonuses. You can still run around and stab people if you want. [br][br]As the two examples given for "abilities that would require him (the Dwarven Defender) t...

Re: Inheritance Rules in 3.5 don't work: deal with it!

I'm tending to agree with Psifon, here... In the last few days, I've come to the conclusion that the whole Alter Self/Polymorph/Wild Shape inheritance chain is so fundamentally screwed up that -- quite obviously at this point -- there's simply no way to completely prove one side or the other of the ...

Re: Inheritance Rules in 3.5 don't work: deal with it!

So I'm going to pull the razor - the argument that really ends discussion. Your argument is simply too grounded in subjective emotional desire and complexity to be correct. [br][br]Utter nonsense -- your razor is obviously dull, since you can't even show how you're justified in using this line of a...

Polymorph says "The assumed form can’t have more Hit Dice than your caster level (or the subject’s HD, whichever is lower), to a maximum of 15 HD at 15th level."[br][br]Wild Shape says "The new form’s Hit Dice can’t exceed the character’s druid level."[br][br]Those are two rules...

But maximum hit dice is not addressed in Wildshape. And elsewhere in the chain, Polymorph Any Object does not address Size or Hit Dice. And yet these issues are in fact overridden at those stages. [br][br]Wrong. The only evidence you've presented for this is the "can't turn a shrew into a mant...

Re: Inheritance Rules in 3.5 don't work: deal with it!

Not at all - the only way we would have to agree that the rules were unclear is if indeed Template Restrictions were somehow suposed to carry over into Polymorph despite the fact that size restrictions and type allowances don't.[br] [br][br]That's simply not true, and I spent numerous posts on the ...

Re: Inheritance Rules in 3.5 don't work: deal with it!

In which case, we're pretty much stuck with one conclusion -- 3.5 is a logistical nightmare, for which it is entirely possible for just about any conclusion to be argued logically from the rules, since the rules themselves are so completely vague (if they weren't, the whole elemental Wild Shape argu...

One could say that the counter argument lacks specificity.[br][br]Perhaps it should have read:[br][br]"At 16th level, a druid becomes able to use wild shape to change into a Small, Medium, or Large elemental (air, earth, fire, or water) once per day. While allowing wildshaping into creatures o...

Re: Character Optimization...

So, I would go out on a limb and say the exact opposite. If you aren't min-maxing, you aren't roleplaying, regardless of the effort you put into the character, because why would this person become a wizard, or cleric, or whatever if he just wasn't good at it? [br][br]Here I'd agree...and in general...

Specificity is defined as the primary source. The primary source is the rule most pertaining to the ability in question, which in this case is the ability in question. [br][br]No, it isn't. If that's the case, then inheritance clauses don't work at all. They're fundamentally useless, basically stat...
