Re: The Biden Administration (No Lago)
The cops are going to shoot the pollution right out of the air. It isn't from this country, doesn't have any money, and it's dark, which is what the cops call a trifecta.

Re: Illinois Safe-T Act (The Purge Law)
Fuck. I wonder what the options are for stopping it are now, aside from the direct action people have been doing. Can the council revoke funding if they manage to get a different vote, or is that it for legal means of stopping copy city? I thought the forest was considered really important to Atlant...

Re: Biden Announces Reelection Campaign
I specifically said I have a candidate to throw away my pointless general election vote for. I'm throwing away my presidential primary vote for Williamson, barring some other, better late entry into the primary. That sucks about the People's Party, and I'm surprised he would run for a crappy party r...

Re: Illinois Safe-T Act (The Purge Law)
I know Kemp said the 3 people (who were all from Georgia) were out-of-state agitators, are the Democrats saying that too? This situation is incredibly fucked.

Re: Biden Announces Reelection Campaign
That all makes sense, there is just something about dictating that age alone disqualifies people from a position that puts me off. We do that to young people (I still can't run for president yet!) already, and since it extends to 35 I can't even pretend it's because of brain development or anything,...

Re: Biden Announces Reelection Campaign
You can definitely be 80+ and still have a brain that works well. We have a few of them in government right now! If you take good care of yourself and get lucky (maybe mostly get lucky?) you don't have to be Dianne Feinstien, you don't even have to be Joe Biden, you can be Bernie Sanders instead. No...

Re: The Biden Administration (No Lago)
The problem is not with people requesting asylum in Mexico, it's that Biden wants to make it impossible for people to request asylum in the US if they dared pass through Mexico (and a ton of other countries, but Mexico is obviously the big one because it's on the southern border). You can travel thr...

The grand jury is going to indict, right? This is a murder that was literally recorded, and where nobody could possibly think Neely was a threat (given he had 3 people restraining him) or that a chokehold was needed. I haven't watched the video because fuck seeing another innocent person get choked ...

Re: Silicon Valley Bank collapse and its effects
Another one bites the dust, First Republic bank just got seized and is being bought up by JPMorgan Chase. This purchase should mean taxpayers won't need to bail out the deposits of First Republic, so this doesn't sound bad at all.

I love the new, inclusive WoTC that hires murderers to collect cardboard for them. Imagine breaking somebody's kneecaps for a Mirari, though.

Re: Biden Announces Reelection Campaign
If Trump dies, can't the GOP run someone just as evil, but pretend that he (it'd be a he) isn't so bad until the election? I think the Trump base would start assuming someone assassinated him if he died, even if Trump's own doctors said there was no foul play. If there's no Trump I don't think the ...

Biden Announces Reelection Campaign
I'm fine to make this a general 2024 election thread if we'd prefer that. Biden has announced he's going for a second term . This is bad news in my opinion, as the majority of people in the country, including the majority of Democrats , did not want Joe Biden to run for president again. I think Bide...

I love how all the things that would combat temperature rise make for a better world and we still won't do it. We need to stay the course or else Jeff Bezos won't be able to get a third, bigger yacht that requires his yacht-supported yacht to support.

Re: Silicon Valley Bank collapse and its effects
I know this was addressed, but I want to talk about just how disgustingly dishonest (or completely idiotic) dead's claims are. Yes, I think 'regular people' in the US can and do buy houses. It appears that 65% of households own their home . Dead, this is households . It says nothing about the number...

Re: Silicon Valley Bank collapse and its effects
I also think that a lot of people have made a pretty compelling case that this could have spread into a major banking crisis. As banks shore up liquidity they would stop making loans. You wouldn't be able to buy a house or a car if you didn't already have cash in hand. Instead of hurting billionair...

Re: Silicon Valley Bank collapse and its effects
It seems the reason is that if we didn't bail out everyone who banked with the risky SVB they would potentially not have been able to pay employees. Why we did not rely on the unemployment system to cover this cannot be known, instead the government needed to step in to give rich people money even t...

Fuck, why? They were literally uninsured deposits.
I just want to see one obscenely rich person lose all their money during my lifetime, is that really too much to ask?

Re: The Biden Administration (No Lago)
I've heard that we actually need to drill more to prevent climate change, because if the economy slows down at all or fails to grow we won't be able to do green tech or public transit or something. This is obviously a stupid position, but I heard it and so now I'm inflicting it on others.

Silicon Valley Bank collapse and its effects
The Silicon Valley bank has collapsed , leaving companies like Roku (which had huge deposits in the SVB) pretty screwed. Many start-ups used it too, so we'll be seeing a lot of little companies dying and probably some big hits to other companies (mostly tech and biotech it seems). I don't know too ...

The NYT says the Biden administration is considering bringing back family detention on the border. Is Biden still better than Trump on immigration if he literally does the same thing Trump did?

You're an asshole, too, you illiterate fuck. I agreed that $19k is obviously poverty and that ~$50k is probably not . I'm just responding to this insult because it's baffling to me. You posted the following, which I was responding to: The Census Bureau uses $14k for a household that has one adult u...

Jesus fuck imagine thinking 14k as a poverty line could potentially not be too low. Let's establish a few facts so he can't be a dumbass about this: 1. The US is highly urbanized, with more than 80% of the population living in urban areas . 2. The median price to rent a 1-bedroom apartment in one of...

Re: The Biden Administration (No Lago)
There is something darky hilarious about how the Democrats act when they do evil shit. "I'm sorry, Jack," Biden says as he signs a contract with Beelzebub, enveloping 115,000 rail workers in hellfire. "I wish there was some other way." The furthest left, most pro-labor president ...

Re: 2022 primaries
The Republican messaging of "The schools are turning your kids LGBT" failed worse than I expected, which is lovely to see. I hope the Republicans don't get the house even though it looks like they will, that would give us a shot in case SCOTUS decides democracy is over. Still worried about...
