Re: "In my game the Mental Attributes are..."

It makes a lot of sense that the guy with lots of ranks in Jump, Climb, Athletics, Tumble, and Break Doors is also the guy who most easily resists a poison sting from a giant scorpion, and the person with no ranks in any of those things is bad at it. The concept of high defense in the classificatio...

Re: "In my game the Mental Attributes are..."

Again, bullshit. The logic for A is no stronger than the logic for ~A; we're just used to the system that happened to pick A. If you're making the choice to maintain that for aesthetic or balance reasons, fine. But let's not pretend that it's a logical requirement.

Re: "In my game the Mental Attributes are..."

When you’re called to make saving throws, it’s logical that a character with lots of magic and knowledge skills has a higher Will than the person that doesn’t. It's really fucking not. You know who completely fails his Will save in Lord of the Rings? Saruman, the wisest and cleverest of all the wiz...

Re: "In my game the Mental Attributes are..."

trying to make ability scores work better is a fool's errand. -if they contribute to your primary shtick, then you fuck up everything else -if they only matter for minor checks, then you don't need that level of granularity. People can just be "strong" without trying to parse out Str 14 vs...

I feel like they learned something from 4E. Nothing about game design, mind you, but a more important lesson: fucking up gets you fired, coasting does not.

Re: Wizards informally announces 5.5 edition

The problem with trying to license D&D is that there are no good stories or characters to sell. It's all trash. That gacha game would have been better if the characters were generics like "elf fighter/mage" and "dragonborn warlock" instead of "Bruenor Battlehammer"....

Wizards informally announces 5.5 edition

https://old.reddit.com/r/dndnext/comments/pw49ou/dd_celebration_news_new_evolution_of_dnd_will/ Someone transcribed the relevant portions of the video (none of which I've watched): "I can actually reveal today that we have earlier this year - we began work on the next evolution of Dungeons and ...

Doesn't need to be an amendment. Court will decide it's always been there as soon as they have enough cover.

Re: [OSSR]Factol's Manifesto

Alignment does a great job of importing people's stupid and contradictory personal beliefs about morality straight into the game without giving any kind of coherent rules basis for anyone else to object. It's the ultimate in mind caulk meets safe space. Just like the Lady.

Re: Have there ever been good sex rules for D&D?

Playing through sex acts at the table sounds excruciating, especially if you're using the combat rules. Good sex comedy rules for D&D: Roll a d20 to do the sex 1: comical mishap (sleep with wrong person, genitals explode, etc) 2-7: ordinary failure (bad sex) 8-14: ordinary success (good sex) 15-...

A CV should be comprehensive, so include everything and write a cover letter that highlights the most relevant parts for the specific position you're applying to.

Re: Monte Cook's The Darkest House

For d20 systems, does the house's 1-10 system match up to a DC/CR range of 3-30? I'm just curious whether this system is a lot like numenera, or literally exactly numenera (with 2d6 replacing 1d20).

Since our trusted armorer was apparently murdered (?), I also suspect Ifor. If not 49, perhaps we turn to 90 based on his last name? 45 by counting the letters in his first and last name? 20 by counting and multiplying?
