Re: Best Edition of Shadowrun?
I prefer 4e over anniversary since it doesn't introduce a minor divide by zero error for no good reason. With that said the differences are minor. Good to know. 4e it is, then. Common pitfalls to be aware of and potentially houserule: 1. Character creation & advancement features an arbitrage mi...

Appreciated, I'll take a look.angelfromanotherpin wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 3:27 amOn this board, Shadowrun 4e is generally considered to be the best version. The pinned thread 'The Ends v4.01' is a set of house rules for 4th to address some of the more egregious problems with the Matrix rules, if you're interested.

Best Edition of Shadowrun?
Shadowrun is a game I've been wanting to get into for a while now, but haven't gotten around to playing yet. I was wondering what is considered to be the best edition. Google wasn't terribly helpful, but from what it sounds like, the most likely candidates are 3rd or 4th edition. I know the answer ...

Re: Monte Cook's The Darkest House
Thanks for the review Prak. Despite being deeply skeptical of anything that that calls itself system agnostic or otherwise brags it can be run in multiple systems... I have to admit I'm disappointed. A haunted house is such a great concept, but the execution is just... Well... Monte Cook. Which is a...

Re: Complaining about 5e Adventure Paths
When you end the game in the Tomb of the Nine Gods, you are expected to be level 9 or higher. If you kill the Atropal at the end, CR 13, Acerack himself shows up all pissed off, CR 23. Its not clear why you wouldn't kill the Atropal, it being a giant evil god fetus feeding off the souls of the thin...

Re: Complaining about 5e Adventure Paths
Late last year, my players wanted me to convert Tomb of Annihilation into 3.5. Good god that module is shit. I constantly have to keep changing things, it's so bad as written. Is there a particular reason they wanted a Tomb of Annihilation conversion, as opposed to using the existing 3e Tomb of Hor...

Re: Complaining about 5e Adventure Paths
How much are you supposed to level up during your random hexcrawl? There's a city the party is tasked with reaching early on that's around ECL 7, if memory serves. Their advice to keep them entering it too early? Describe it as a dangerous place. Does that ever work? It seems like designing a modul...

Re: Complaining about 5e Adventure Paths
I think my favorite part is when the module said the PCs have to survive by their wits and no one is going to save them! Then, on the same page, the book goes on to timidly suggest the DM might Deus Ex Machina a way for them to survive. Isn't that just every OSR game in a nutshell? Wouldn't know, I...

Late last year, my players wanted me to convert Tomb of Annihilation into 3.5. Good god that module is shit. I constantly have to keep changing things, it's so bad as written. From random encounters that are all but guaranteed to TPK low level groups, to maps so confusing I couldn't read them, to th...

I want to stress, were literally talking about a plan where you perfectly ambush someone who knows everything you are going to do 19 weeks before hand, use two CL 100 spells in a single round from within 40ft but around a corner, and then, having done this, the plan is STILL going to fail because h...

Because Disjunction is close range, so you are within counterspell range, and he can counterspell your disjunction as a free action. Thank you for the explanation. So you have to cast both Disjunction and Blasphemy from behind a corner against a Mindblanked target that you don't even know the buff ...

It doesn't actually limit it to once per round. When performing an action within its portfolio, a deity can perform any action as a free action, as long as the check DC is equal to or less than the number on the table below. The number of free actions a deity can perform each round is also determin...

You are just in way too deep in this pretend it's easy to kill God's thing. I never said it was easy to kill a 3.X god. I freely admit I'm losing patience with merxa saying stupid shit all the time. This god is more powerful than any 10 level 15 PCs in the options open to it and you would in fact h...

Maybe I'm just a fuckin' idiot who's trying to escape the horrible frigid hellscape Texas has become, but couldn't Odin invent a new spell, causing it to exist, then cast it without memorizing it? Does he have to invent spells according to some guidelines, or can he just make a Super Antimagic Fiel...

Yeah i was thinking on this a bit. Odin could walk around with an antimatic field on all the time, since Odin is a deity he is immune to the impacts of it. And since Odin has Arcane Mastery (he gets access to all spells and can invent new ones), Spontaneous Wizard Spells (he doesn't need to memoriz...

No they aren't. I don't know why people think this, but it isn't true. Lets see... Spell Resistance A deity has spell resistance of 32 + its divine rank. Good luck having a chance in hell at beating that before the endgame! (provided you're fighting a -demigod- at most, that is!). As I said, defact...

you've made several claims, some rather outlandish, and haven't provided much actual support for your claims. Like the Lady of Pain being a Penis Extension NPC? How is that outlandish? EDIT: And you haven't provided any support for your claims, you hypocrite. Sure, you can continue to argue from au...

After you summarily dismissed the quoted passages from the planescape campaign and called me dishonest it's hard to know if you're just really young, having fun trolling people, or if there's some other issue going on that might be impolite to speculate about. Yeah, it's just amusing for someone to complain the 3x god stat blocks are under optimized and their super special pc would totally own them all. Not as amusing as watching an utter idiot who's too dishonest to directly engage with me. For Odin, throwing his spear, he would roll for crit confirmati...

But I really want to point out that the god in question has Alter Reality, which means it has at will literally every spell in the game. Now, certainly, it's not impossible to defeat such a god played badly, but I seriously doubt the credentials of anyone who sees that the God in question has at wi...

If you guys want to argue that any tactic that would be strong enough to kill a god would be shut down in an actual game, fine. I'll concede that. I was thinking in the context of a game with a high level of optimization when I said you could probably kill a 3.X god with a character half their level.

Prerequisites: Divine rank 6, Gift of Life or Hand of Death salient divine ability. Benefit: The deity designates any mortal and snuffs out its life...
