Re: Mike Mearls fired from WotC

Edit - And it's been true for a long time that MERCHANDISING is more valuable than the product itself. Selling T-Shirts at $35 each is always going to make you more money in the long-run than a 1-time movie ticket sell of $15 or a physical book for $50. The goal from the corporate perspective is to...

Re: Mike Mearls fired from WotC

D&D, as a brand, has moved beyond outdated concepts like "having game designers" and "releasing content". By outsourcing the brand to other mediums as much as possible, WotC can actually try to make money off people who spend more than $100 every 5 years on their material. Th...

Re: Arguing about Pokemon Tabletop Evolution (WIP)

Hah, I finally got around to making a website for this. I took all the stuff I wrote on Google Docs and slapped it onto a domain with mild amounts of HTML to make things legible. It's been quite fun to review everything and semi-tidy it for public use, and I hope that going public will push me to wo...

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered

Ok, been looking through 5e and while there is a lot that just looks bad. In particular, they way attack spells either do or do not affect things other than creatures, seemingly depending on whether or not the writer remembered to put rules in for that. When it does affect things (eg "A flamma...

Re: Biden Announces Reelection Campaign

West is (unfortunately) running for the People's Party in the general, not for the democratic party primary. So you still have uhhhhh Marianne Williamson? as the best democratic primary candidate, and then while West might be the best third party candidate in the general, his party actually kind of...

Re: Biden Announces Reelection Campaign

Yes, thank you for elaborating on that, Kaelik. You're totally right. Biden was a senator back in 1973 and somehow failed his way to the top of the party despite his increasing inability to speak basic sentences, and the weirdest part to me is how they refuse to even entertain another candidate simp...

Re: Biden Announces Reelection Campaign

Can I be ageist and talk about how fucking old these crones are? Biden will be 82 by 2024. Trump will be 78. Jesus fucking christ, man. Pelosi is 83. Dianne Feinstein is what, 89 years old? What the hell could she POSSIBLY be doing at her "job"? For god's sake, get these people some milk, ...

Re: Ignoring things that ignore the ignoring of...

This is literally how 99% of Yugioh games play out. "My monster can't be targeted by your effects" "Well, my effect isn't targeting you!" "But I'm also immune to monster effects!" "Well my monster effect is actually replicating your spell card's effect so this is A...

Re: So the OGL drama hey

This got my group to start talking about trying out Pathfinder 2nd edition (ew? maybe?) but I wonder if it'll actually provoke enough tables to stop playing D&D. Or at least to stop paying for 5e stuff. Does Wizards even make money off of legacy content anymore, or do they just pretend it doesn'...

Re: So the OGL drama hey

I am hoping we can get some High-Level TGD-style analysis on this subject ,as well that Discord didn't eat up all the potential discussion we could've had. I learned of this news a couple days ago, and I don't really get why they shot themselves in the foot for what is usually lost in rounding erro...

Re: What's your favorite kind of high level "friendly" NPC?

I remember one time I started a campaign with a high-level friendly NPC in the party, helping everyone guard the empress. He was a real knowledgeable, driven, yet charismatic dude. Then an even higher level enemy showed up and wasted that guy in two rounds.
That sure got everyone's attention.

Re: Arguing about Pokemon Tabletop Evolution (WIP)

Thank you, it's nice to get as many people together as possible to test all this crazy shit. My tone is mostly light-hearted, with a few concessions made for logic's sake. I actually played a few hours of Pokemon Arceus last weekend (what a lazy, cheap game...) and their constant insistence that 'he...

Thanks for the feedback! I'll just jump right into it. Xd6 skills. I am somewhat partial to this as i’m focusing on a 3d6 game engine, but i strongly suspect the skill DC math for xd6 skill checks will not work out smoothly, especially when say a challenge must be done by multiple characters,...

Re: Arguing about Pokemon Tabletop Evolution (WIP)

For shits and giggles, I dug up all my old notes on this game and compiled them into a single PDF file. Didn't really edit anything, since I wanted to see how much I had worked on. My motivation's ground to a halt with the cessation of IRL tabletop goodness, but when I slapped it all together I real...
