EW - 4/10 MoD - 5/10 FSiM - 7/10 OE - 3/10 TLotT - 6/10 CE - 7/10 WotG - 7/10 ASS - 7/10 MoV - 8/10 WC - 6/10 IEID - 8/10 All of those are purely subjective and personal scores, of course. All of them bear potential for great stories, but I simply like the theme and mechanical solutions they provoke...

The idea that all religions have exorcisms is one of the dumbest things I've ever read and a perfect example of why "true faith" sucks. I guess you don't read a lot, then. Moreover, my argument weasn't that all religions have a "rite of exorcism to banish demons" but rites, pray...

Having now satisfactorily* established that we could add a paragraph to explain how shoehorning in True Faith isn't automatically cultural appropriation depending on how you do it, you then still haven't answered why we should want to include it at all. What does it add to vampire stories if you ca...

fueled by the belief of the Person performing them. I think this is where people lose you. This is all very Mage the Ascension/Unknown Armies style postmodernism. Actual Christians and Shintoists will of course tell you that belief has nothing to do with anything - Christian ancestor spirits object...

gonna need some citations on that, 'cause it sure looks like you're trying to tell all religions that they work like Christianity as far as vampires are concerned Longes hit the nail on the head. Of course their exorcisms don't work the same, but they all have magical rituals to deal with evil pres...

But it happens to work exactly like the Christian concept of the State of Grace that protects you from the forces of evil, and not at all like the Buddhist concept of enlightenment to the center of the eightfold path. It's all very well and good to pat yourself on the back for being open minded by ...

As for subjective reality. I think it is clear (that at least at one point) White Wolf was angling for different subcultures to adopt their different games. So it makes no sense if you are doing yet another game for hot goth chicks, but if you are making a game for college kids who took "Postm...

Fairly young vampires would likely hold the same beliefs they had before they were turned. You could consider turning a traumatising event and people suffering from identity uncertainty fall back to rules, values and beliefs that are familiar, mostly from their early development stages. You would th...

The most obvious retort to the claim that you can easily handle Stealth as a single skill is the simple reality that there is no easy way to handle Stealth. Full fucking stop. I have to agree on that Point. But even so, you don't really gain anything meaningful by splitting stealth into two skills ...

This is stupid and wrong on a bunch of levels. Just for starters, 3rd edition D&D did not split Hide and Move Silently. Hide in Shadows and Move Silently were Thief Abilities written in the 1970s. 3rd Edition removed an entire percentile based subsystem for Thief Abilities and merged the Thief ...

@Jason Yes, 3.x characters needed more skills. That's because skills were actually cool and useful, even if they were just 'fluff'. They provided a mechanical hook for an important way to distinguish your character. Your martial character that plays a flute could be just different enough from my si...

Oh, I do agree that some skills could be merged. But to be fair, this is the first iteration of skills working like that in D&D. Pathfinder did the obvious thing and merged Hide/Move Silently and some other skills, and I'd do the same if I attempted a 3.5 rewrite. Good, then on this we are in a...

The core rules, which is to say, things that aren't classes, feats or spells, are great. Skills, the BAB idea, the saving throws, etc. Still the best among D&D's versions of these things. Skills: - The Perform skill is an atrocity in and off itself. It's a fluff skill, only mechaniczed for a si...

This is the kind of hipster cynicism that's supposed to sound like calloused wisdom but is actually just empty negativity. Yes, there are flaws in every game that has ever been made or which ever will be made. But that's not the same thing as saying that everything "is shit." Learn to rea...

Eh. 3.5 is still the best fantasy superhero system I've seen. Everything else is either a larger clusterfuck (Exalted), doesn't follow the powerlevel (every other D&D edition), or isn't fantasy-focused by default (GURPS). That may very well be the case. It doesn't change the fact that the rules...

I think this is the part of the argument that I have the most trouble with, as it denies any sort of logical extension to situations the rules don't cover and aims to thwart any attempts to derive consistent conclusions. Spells doing exactly what they say is certainly consistent and straightforward...

Then we are left in a state where anything you drop is also you. To a degree, yes. The problem is that the rules in 3.5 are not consistent about what they intend to be affected by spells that target "you". With the most legalese reading you'd lose all your clothing and equipment the monen...

There are multiple meanings of “you”. While I could agree with you on that on a philosophical level, I simply cannot on a rules level. "You" in that context means first and foremost your character and your trappings as they are willed into action by you (the player). There is no metaphysi...

"You" aren't attacking someone when launching an arrow or throwing a flask,... That's obviously nonsense! "You" attack a target the moment you (as in: the player) are asked to make a roll or take an action with hostile intent for it. Even by the strictest of definitions, any act...

If Ethereal Jaunt allows you to attack Targets on the ethereal plane without restrictions that ranged ammunition cannot simply drop back into the material plane. There is also this part about Ethere...

No one is claiming that specific rules about what happens when you put an object down or pick one up don't apply. The point is that there must also be a rule you apply when no specific rule applies, and that that rule is that things you put down are not you. Your entire line of reasoning is based o...

To be fair, if you have hardly any rules to begin with, neither do you need a lot of errata, nor will you find a lot of noise requesting change. As it stands, hardly anyone I know even plays by the rules of 5e, even if they claim to do so.

I'm curious: This game claims to be a diceless system. How does this work with PbtA's philosophy of having their player fail most of their actions most of the time?
Are their moves not tied to the ridiculous 2d6 system? Does anyone have any experience with Undying?
