The content from the first set of articles was presented at GDC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHHg99hwQGY There are some directions to think about design that might help with the heartbreaker RPG design, but don't think it's too newsworthy or that applicable to the group and various works here. Surprised I don't get a relevant result for a search engine query of how much energy loss it takes it freeze someone. Anyway, think you're forgetting something Frank. That's how much energy it takes for a person-size amount of water to lose 30C, sure. But ice formation also takes energy loss, someth...

Any creativity or thought that's actually in Star Wars will get snuffed out by the fans, but I went to Wookiepedia against my better judgement to see if there were any numbers about ships. There isn't, even though the article has cites down to the ttg level. There is a mention that Kimono (or someth...

There's one glaring omission I can see. We need a pithy wrap-up of why you could care less about Quietus, something along the lines of Frank's "the first 3 dots of Protean are worth less than a flashlight and a shovel." Ancient History's line about you can't rub poison in the Ventrue's con...

Out of like 1500 pages, that's part of like maybe 3 (Maggie and Janis bring it up). It looks very dead as a good and on schedule webcomic, pretty dead overall. Not sure where the hax for all sides plot line could have been going, can't really see much interesting that's easily predictable happening....

We can actually have fun if we don't play VtM :) I'd think you'd still want mundane action rules then you slather your discipline bonus on top. Do you see spending blood for such? The kinds of problems that develop are your explanation for x can be used for everything similar to x--you pound every p...

Don't forget about the Mirror Mephit in your backstory, that was just a simulacrum of your party :) RaW is what we can discuss excepting widely known stuff like Tomes. Tippy's group actually plays that way, so that's an interesting fishbowl to stare into (mostly they dream up non-caster builds that ...

1) I guess you mean MM block is your character sheet? Pick a bruiser immune to what you're facing sounds pretty good. Getting Wish or something like that would probably be the biggest problem. 2) 3) Are the case SRD. Stuff you want to be probably has a pile of extra hit dice anyway, it's a 3.x probl...

As an emperor, having your daimyos feud is a good control mechanism, less time and resources they have to knock you off your throne :) L5R had a few things to keep a weak emperor on the throne: - The capitol was sacrosanct. Maybe blockade or siege was acceptable. - There were some orders from the th...

Maybe it'll be clearer with some rephrasing. It's Aragorn's backstory that gets him a ghost army, not any part of his character mechanics. He could be a merchant or artisan or courtier and be able to do that...or of course one of the DnD tier 1 classes. Eagles just get writers out of corners they pa...

For that matter, what kind of setting does DnD or VtM have? What kind of draw is that for the games--I know we've been over the latter recently after all? K's answer: file off all the serial numbers, I think it depends. You want your group to be able to approach the material from a pretty similar di...

I never saw the card, but think Gohei was called something else pre-Imperial so you just played 6 of him until the Errata was actually enforced for tournaments. Of course there was Oni no Akuma :) 30 card dynasty deck doesn't need that deep of a bench. Wonder if Dragon was ever broken before I stopp...

My L5R alarm went off: Clan Wars era (before Hidden Emperor) was heavily dependent on format: 30/30 v 40/40 and whether you used the "simulation" rules (only current block events, personalities and something I forget). Both of them curbed the more degenerate strategies, but also limited a ...

So far we can use lower-case for all examples, so wondered about thoughts on one of my bugaboos: the organization classes such as Harper X or Sword Coast Pirate. I've never liked, don't see why it can't be a sentence in your character history, allies or carried item section(s) of your character shee...

It's no different than planning any other type of scenario, unless it's much lower/higher level NPC parties, but that's problematic for other reasons. If the party is a group of brooding loners or some type of murder-hobo, probably not a good idea. I think it's the wrong approach to go into thinking...

It wouldn't be L5R RPG without the sidebar rants.

I didn't think it could get clunkier, yet here we are. Will have to track down their example resolutions.

Curious to know if individual creature buffs could ever be a thing in constructed. Deck slots are pretty important after all, it'd really have to be something like target creature becomes an eldrazi titan and it still probably wouldn't be good enough to see play.

Stuff shown here looks pretty strong to me, granted some of it might not have marvelish tricks to get it on the board in time to matter. It's still fascinating that so few decks see tournament play/top placement out of a card pool of what 2k? Have something to ask first: How will things change when the last block or two rotate out? Right, there's 3 or 4 different mechanical system besides the Alderac pubbed shitshow. If it's mostly dnd with the serials filed off, probably going to be clunky/easily broken without an extensive overhaul, just way too many problems throughout the different editions.
