I just watched the season finale of The Good Place . I don't think a comedy has made me cry that emotionally that hard. The show was amazing, and it's kinda what the world needs... A story about people trying to be better, and who end up imperfectly good. I love it. Isn't that the show where they t...

It can help to design the 'natural world' and 'big monsters', think about how magic works for them, then apply it to player characters I think part of where D&D magic shits on the setting is the disconnect between PC's and the World, and then the casters retroactively getting everything that go...

Do you even cast, bro?

I'm working on a thing. Fantasy heartbreaker. Setting is a Masters of the Universe/Thundarr the Barbarian type world of adventure, magic and super science. Gamma World 7E (stripped down D&D4) forms the base of the system with a few updates. There are 10 levels of character progression, and three...

Fun fact: 50% of TGD arguments end up unintentionally homoerotic.
Unintentionally? We follow the proud debate tradition of the Greeks, where the loser gets assfucked until he displays humility.

I've been listening to Behind the Bastards which is kind of a mixed bag. It's entertaining but also kind of depressing because so many of these people never face lasting consequences for the things they've done. Also some of his cohosts are obnoxious, he's got a rotating set of them, some are defin...

I was on another forum when the old Dilbert comics got brought up. I linked to MRA Dilbert (the blog where they take Dilbert comics and replace the text with direct quotes from Scott Adams' own shitty blog). I found this gem. You kinda picked up the wrong game if you want to play "unambiguously good guys". Elder scrolls always was a lot more in the neutral and evil side. Crafting magic bling demands capturing and sacrificing the souls of other beings and a bunch of artifacts are locked behind doing quests for ...

Barry Season 1 was good. Season 2 is a bit much of the actors being bad at acting, which is just cringe-y. But Episode 5 was different. Almost the entire episode was fight scenes, and Barry came out slightly better at the end because he made the choice to be a better person. Now there's nobody curr...

Time travel as a plot device always bothers me. I didn't really see a need for the 5 year time skip, other than explaining how Ant-man's van got moved and giving Tony Stark a daughter. Finally saw Sorry To Bother You. It's a disturbing surrealistic journey through a nightmarish near future dystopia that is very funny. It's like if Repo Man and Office Space had a baby, but it offers a deeper and less nihilistic critique of society. It's the best movie I've seen all year, and I'm s...

Re: Ok, so how *do* you make a robust tactical minigame?

Kicking around another RPG idea, kinda looking at a Storyteller hack, but I'm back on the western/1800s America ideal, which means that the game wants a detailed positioning minigame for when everyone whips out their pistols. But... I have no fucking clue how to accomplish that, and my main design ...

I feel like there's a strong right-wing troglodyte undercurrent to a lot of sci-fi/fantasy out there. I haven't really gone out of my way to investigate writers ideological leanings, but some make it patently obvious. I'm reminded of "The Iron Dream" by Norman Spinard. The book presents an...

Castlevania s2 on Netflix was really good for the most part. I was skeptical because season 1 wasn't that great and ended right when it felt like the narrative was starting, but season 2 is much improved (dialog is less terrible, they explore the characters a bit more, art style looks cleaner, etc)...
