Re: Workers at Paizo unionize
I'm very curious to see how it works out. Apparently they have a bigger staff than Wizard's, but not the sales of 5e.

Re: Matrix RPG?
So I've heard, people have used Mage the Ascension, or Mage the Awakening rules to attempt "Matrix" style games with reasonable success.

Re: Level-based Ability Score Boosts
In my heavily house ruled SWSE game, I give +2 every 4 levels. In addition, I run a more "epic" game where PC's can fill more than one destiny, and those typically give out another +2, whenever they occur.

Re: Horrible evil corrupt Cuomo might finally face consequences
Significant majorities of NYers support both impeaching Cuomo and arresting him. And yet, he's still just chilling, being the Governor, and the NY political establishment is busy explaining how you can't impeach anyone who promised to resign at some future time! Well, that's modern governments for ...

Thanks for posting all this analysis - I had a serious look at using Spheres for Pathfinder but then we ran another game instead. I can see 5e fans using this book too!

This was one of the first RPG books I owned as a tender newbie to RPGs at 11, over two decades ago. I read the book and ran the adventure over and over again with my friends until the book fell apart.

Bumping my old thread here: Still curious after this fascinating discussion if anyone has new points of consideration? I think a SFX company or companies that "compete" with each other for the most realistic SFX has some merit. The drawback might be when individual animators and other CGI ...

Re: Shopping for a new system
My friend is looking for a system to jump ship to from 5e. Her sort of wishlist is: More of a focus on collaborative storytelling, like a PbtA game more systems for combat than just "If you're hitting someone with a sword you roll this ONE move" good systems for talking with NPCs and conv...

https://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/campaigns/sanity.htm#psychosexualDisorders So far as medieval societies went, I can't imagine them being terribly accepting of Crossdressers. Ars Magica in particular, has it as a suggestion for the Major Flaw, Dark Secret. If one can simple wear a belt of gender ...

The other thing to consider is hand out hero points a lot. They let players power stunt and gives them some rewards for RPing and doing heroic stuff. Make sure you're clear about what those can do, as well. They're nice to use in dramaticly important moments so they player doesn't completely flub th...

@Grek has some great points. 1. Keep an eye out on movement powers and how the group is moving around, and applying things like Quickness. Battles can get really wonky with a Speedster/Technomancer who insists they can invent a new item at x2048 speed or somesuch thing. 2. Another factor with super ...

Great Discussion Guys! Lots to think on here, and adding the realism from HEMA is super cool. Updates: 1. Successfully critical hits, or exceed an opponents damage threshold moves them back 1 square. If the attacker has remaining attacks, they can follow and hit again. [Edit: Bantha Rush is a Core R...

Ok. So some more thoughts on this that require tweaking the SWSE d20 system and hopefully not exploding things into bits. Obvious Principle: Incentives matter. 1. Successfully hitting an opponent moves them back 1 square. If the attacker has remaining attacks, they can follow and hit again. 2. Endin...

Exalted "Essence"
So, Onyx Path is making an unofficial Exalted 4e . This is a stripped down, simplified version of the 3E engine. They're saying it's not a new edition, which is true in the "not rewriting the setting" way... But if walks like duck... December 5, 2019 — Rich Thomas, founder and Creative Dir...

Quick resolution that makes enough sense is the most important part of any RPG. It's the randomness that makes the game fun.

Re: The concept of 'organic' growth in D&D
I'll have to look into it. I think I should make it very clear that I'm fine with D&D, I've read more than enough here and read enough of the older editions to know how much of the game is straight cargo cult programming. It's that I happened to end up with some 5e groups that don't actually li...
