Seconded a thousand times. Hogfather was amazing. It touches on and discusses many aspects of Christmas and overall, gives a feel good vibe. I've shown it to people completely unfamiliar with Discworld and they enjoyed it too.

I'd like to read about a ridiculously high level (with rules RAW) game full of broken builds, both by players and gamemasters. You'd probably need some sort of software to do all the math for you though.

Yeah. I don't think anything quite gets a 'holy shit' reaction like the players having a nice chat with the shopkeeper that one of the players was roleplaying then coming back the next week and finding that he was executed by the secret police. Or less gruesomely, they were discovered to be the unk...

the homemade magic items are too numerous to list. Just post your favorite ones then. Problem is, most magic items seem like they can be replaced by spells at high levels. Personally, I'm rather fond of the Bag of Tricks (sure, summoning is more reliable, but it's great for low levels), the Hat of ...

Ars Magica has a really similiar idea, where in addition to each player's main mages, each player has a companion that is related to a different player's mage, along with a few one-word-desccriptor throwaway goons called grogs. This way, if there's an adventure for one of the mages, the other playe...

While browsing online I came across a concept called 'Jamming', from a 2e book called Creative Campaigns. Jamming, used as a role-playing term, was coined in 1993 in the second edition D&D Creative Campaigning softcover supplement. Essentially, it involves allowing players to assume generic NPC ...

The original Paper Mario 64 really blew my mind. I wasn't sure how exactly a Mario RPG would work, and was expecting a typical JRPG with Mario characters. Instead there was a unique aesthetic (3D world with 2D characters who are actually completely flat), few but salient and intuitive stats, overwor...

Go through the characters' skill lists and contrive situations to give them reasons to use them. Put an over CR'd monster in a room, but provide tons (so players don't feel like they have to guess 'the right method') of indirect methods to help kill it in that room, or you feel that doesn't make eno...

Mundane would be normal, standard, average. Something mundane would not be described by the word 'magical' half a dozen times. For a fantasy farmer, a cow is still mundane. The fantasy farmer does not have a flock of griffons in his daily life, therefor they are not. There are fantasy settings wher...

The thing I like most about bells and whistles is that they prevent me from making minor errors that I find really frustrating to debug. I didn't have any trouble using C# on Visual Studio even though many of the keywords and functions are spelled differently than their Actionscript counterparts (Ac...

Javascript feels kinda familiar as I've messed around with Actionscript 2 and 3 a lot (really missing the autocorrection and ctrl space menu that IDEs for Object Oriented Languages have so a comprehensive reference would be extremely helpful). Okay, I didn't really look at like that. My sister's hyperactive kids (3 and 6) run around a lot and often fall down, or hurt themselves somehow. They might cry for maybe a minute or two, but then they start running around again laughing madly like before. I guess I was thinking of these like their ...

A player wants to be a minotaur, and I'd like one without racial hit dice or level adjustment. We're playing Tome classes and feats with Pathfinder races (I like the floating +2s). Some candidates I'm considering: In the Company of Minotaurs, a third party Pathfinder product, copied from a review of...

If they actually had someone on the show who had middle-school-level awareness of mythologies, there'd be no show... Monsters work differently in different franchises, so the common weaknesses you find in the ur texts may or may not apply. I think the only way research can be difficult is if there'...

Well, one thing that's really annoyed me is the variation in performance for some skills, e.g. Jump. I find it kinda ridiculous that a guy who's max jump distance is 20 feet can roll a 1 and just jump 1 foot.

There generally aren't other parties that are adventuring and level up in most campaigns I think, but it might be interesting nonetheless to have some. Other parties could be villains, allies, friendly rivals, etc. One Piece has this, and it works there. This would fit pretty well in something like ...

Yeah level 10 seems plausible via action movie physics. I wonder what beyond 10 could look like with modern classes? Supernatural martial arts ala Crouching Tiger, Kung fu hustle or Shaolin soccer perhaps. Or Matrix style bullet dodging, superpowers or iron man suits. You'd probably need some sort o...
