http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dd/20061028a This was written by Mearls, so it's obviously full of fail. The fact he talks about keeping charm person because of its out-of-combat utility and iconic nature, yet removes the other charm and flesh to stone is frustrating. I'm looking into the ...

For simplicity (and no arguing), we just set Mass Comprehend at 5th lvl (same as Mass Cure Light). I do sort of like that Communal thing, though. Because I know damn well I'm not getting Mass Tongues under 7th. Why not just get a wand of tongues? Beats having to prepare real spells of it, and unles...

Given the convoluted bullshit that happens when the MacGuffins actually exist as MacGuffins, it could be literally anything. Since apparently a school fight in a bathroom counts for a change in Master status, but actually killing someone doesn't. I don't care if they do magically come back from the...

Runequest in its default setting Glorantha, is the only game I know that makes mythology right, out of the box. But by the OP is not clear if you want a mythology-infused game (like Runequest above) or just mythic/larger than life heroes. If its the later, I suspect most D&D characters of reall...

What makes a game mythological?

After reading the... hilarious mythic adventures for Pathfinder, I find myself wondering if anyone has made a real, usable game based on myth that didn't suck ass. I don't think I need to waste anyone's time by mentioning the rules clusterfuck that White Wolf made in the forms of Exalted and Scion, ...

Hell, just giving people more feats and making each feat a spell you could cast regardless of class would make the entire 3e skill system irrelevant and speed the game immeasurably. For example, people would never use Diplomacy skills once they had an at-will Suggestion and Fly, Climb, and Jump che...

If the pool is 10ft deep sure. But multiple failures stack, so failing several times in a row will in fact result in one success not saving you. Have you EVER read the motherfucking swim rules? It says you go underwater if you fail the check by 5 or more. Nowhere does it say you are dragged underwa...

I assumed we were talking about "people with a swim speed" versus "people with ranks in the relevant skill." So he's got a -12 penalty, a +4 modifier, and lots of fucking checks before he drowns. Yes, he's probably going to survive that and will eventually pull his ass to safety...

So he is going to roll a 20-12, and hit DC 10 how exactly? Seriously, learn some fucking numbers, because what you just described is people dying in your roll system no matter what they roll. I assumed we were talking about "people with a swim speed" versus "people with ranks in the ...

For example, you could start at level 1 with a 5ft swim speed, and armor that penalizes your move speed would reduce it to nothing, as would magical whirlpools ect. Then, anyone who did not invest character resources in swimming would be able to in most circumstances, move either 5ft a round as a m...

And I'm not advocating a "make skill checks or die" style of play, I'm just assuming that environmental hazards exist at all. No, you are assuming that environmental hazards exist, absolutely kill you, and require some specific arbitrary value to survive. As many people have told you, if ...

spongeknight, that sounds really fucking dumb. If not making the jump is so terrible, then when someone rolls a failure how is that not every bit as bad if not worse than someone not being able to make the jump in the first place? It's the difference between "The wizard casts finger of death, ...

Thirdly, auto-success and auto-fail doesn't matter to anyone. People never complained that wall spells made walls 100% of the time and there was never a big uproar over other spell effects that did or did not work in a binary fashion. History has spoken on this issue. Nobody is really upset about h...

That sounds a lot like the Wal*Mart Apocalypse setting for Savage Worlds. It's a fan setting, but they've made a lot of interesting stuff for it. It addresses a lot of the issues you've brought up, though some more than others.

Same Game challenge, starting with CR 5. The "standard" build I'm using has basic sphere access to Healing and Restraint, upgrading those two at levels 10 and 15. Feats are sniper and point blank shot. A huge Animated iron statue- it pops up next to the Bullet Mage by virtue of not breathi...

Do your Sphere SLAs run solely off Focus, or do they also consume per-day uses? You may want to clarify the kind of action Danmaku is. Default is Standard. Does Trick Shot still work if you miss? The spheres work the same way they do for the Factotum- even if you have a spell memorized, you must be...

[Tome] Bullet Mage remake

Alright everyone, this is my first post and topic here at the Gaming Den, so please forgive me if I do something incredibly stupid somehow. That said, let's get on with the homebrew! I put this class together after seeing the Bullet Mage posted in the Tome repository and seeing all the revisions it ...
