Are we just thinking of mobbing them when they make it to the bottom of the steps? Because honestly I can't think of a better plan and Velasco is almost immune to AoO at this point so I can run through combat no problem.

In terms of a shopping list Velasco definitely wants at least one flask of the Elixir of Orkideh, as well as a dose of the Black Stygian Scorpion Venom. If we opened the ambush with the elixir we could end it before he was able to cast a single spell. The poison is mainly to play it safe.

Sorry the incredible delay but Velasco is all updated. In terms of planning the ambush I'm assuming we're going to set up at the base of the steps? That way he would only have on way out. Also Velasco could hide at the entrance to the temple and follow him down, giving quicker flanking bonuses when ...

In terms of prep for the battle there's not much Velasco needs since he's just going to stabbing whatever he can. Really my only concern is being able to close enough to Katsetshuset. While Velasco's outburst seems mainly fueled by anger and a need to vent there is undeniable panic in his voice.
Taking a deep breath he'll begin walking back to camp and the fire, taking off some of his extraneous clothing to aid in the process of drying off.

That marching order and general plan sounds good to me.
