I agree that full flight at 12HD is stupid, but if you keep all the background shit around raptorans, and just add they can fly, then they become an awesome race. Last time I tried to introduce people, I used 3.5 core only. And then went through the process of selling each class. Everyone was a druid. I just made their characters for them based on what they wanted, and I still wanted to kill everyone at the table.

There is another thing that Dota does better than Lol. A patch with that much stuff, and it only took 7 minutes for me to download, as opposed to where Lol updates took 15-20.
