Harlequin from Shadowrun is there solely to be better than you. The videogames presented an interpretation of his character that wasn't obnoxious, though.

I'd be up for handicaps or mass tournament style. Tournament could be pleasingly chaotic, with people bumping into each other... Would you loot all their stuff if you killed someone?

Water lets you perform a second action during a turn, as long as it doesn't share tags (Scheme, Attack, Support, etc) with the first action, and doesn't require a dice roll. Can spend a * to heal 2 strife. Earth makes it so enemies can't spend * to inflict status effects on you, or to autocrit you. ...

But... it seems this kind of things is easier to handle if you just detach strifes from the dice roll and make it an extra slow-charging resource to access yeah? Say you have X amount of bonus dice, using it builds up strife that only slowly goes down, or suddenly bursts with an Unmasking. The 90's...

I don't get the need to have intelligent beings that are kill on sight in the first place.
What about intelligent beings where it's generally understood that if you see them, you're going to die?

Legend of 5 Rings does Strife. You get strife from certain environmental factors or hostile action, but also dice rolls you choose to keep and use that have strife symbols on them. Once your strife exceeds your Composure (a derived attribute), you become Compromised, which makes you more susceptible...

Going to play Gloomhaven for the first time, what should I know about the game mechanics? General thoughts on the game? Go easy on the loss cards. You can lose a card (or two cards from discard) to avoid one incident of hp loss/death, but you generally shouldn't unless you absolutely have to. Cards...

Name of the Wind was good. Kind of unlikeable protagonist based on/named after the author's teenage D&D character, but pretty readable despite that. The sequel seems to have a really irregular format rather than a narrative progression, is long in places, but mostly just feels so cringe the whol...

Oh wow, the locked door was just another, longer route to the previous prize, one that avoided that one big fight? And we got the worst of both worlds because we did both?

I'm not sure whether we should explore the whole place, or whether that's a sunk cost fallacy and we should just get out now.
