@Virgil I always thought the first key to creating something good was recognizing what was good in the first place. If you can see the quality in other peoples' work it means you don't have your head up your ass. It's something.. Edit- It's ironic that nobody has responded to the Questions of humani...

Im running an 18th level 3e game right now (2+ years so far) and Im running out of anything reasonable to throw at my players. The mechanics are bad at this level but ive fixed most of that. The problem is that the tasks are so big. Its hard to keep the setting together when the party can alter the ...

I think there is a simple difference between spamming the same spell and the same melee attack and that's the rolling. It may not be a big deal to some but rolling to hit and damage and maybe a critical too keeps me more interested than saying 'I cast Glitterdust' ad nauseum, even if its a damn good...

I had a great point about resists being a perfect example of the fundamental diffrences between the 2 systems. 3e started with things that made sense and then tried to make them playable. 4e tried to make itself playable and often didnt care if things made sense. That WAS my point until ModCitiz pos...

It seemed completely obvious to me that the half-divine damage on Flamestrike was so that you still did some damage if the thing was immune to fire. Its the first thing I thought when I read the spell. Its a feature unless you're running into a bunch of stuff with Divine Resistance. Ive never run in...

There is absolutely no reason for a Succubus to be the same class as a Blue Slaad. It would make a good sitcom. That said, separating Elves, giving actual racial abilities (small as they were), padding first level and choosing from 2 save stats were all highlights to be before I stopped playing 4e ...

What if you're fucking stupid. I mean, what if you're too stupid to play Lord Handsomeface (great name BTW) and roleplay him well, for whatever reason. At Libertad: Is there some sort of 'fastest to 100 posts' prize I dont know about? Im not ragging on you, Im just curious. You sure dived in with bo...

Id rule out a bleeding type of effect. Wounding was a bleed effect in 3.0. I think it was changed because it was a one-hit kill against animals and mbeasts who couldnt reasonably heal themselves, if I remember correctly. You dont like Con damage. It can be a pain to keep track of so I get that. How ...

Cursed Blade is a 4th level assassin/hexblade spell that prevents healing. You could base the effect off that. The dmg wounding ability is actually very good when you do the math. It works out to 1 point of damage per 2 hit dice of your target, assuming he has a Con score. Once youre at high levels ...

You still just have the wrong conception of Evasion. Fire requires heating you up. Rogues just spin in a circle so fast throwing their cape up that the air around them sweeps in a circle, absorbing the heat and flowing past them, taking no damage. By changing the air currents with your movement, yo...

I think 'wall of flames' fireball and fireball makes sense. Evasion doesnt. I think 'firework/ shrapnel' fireball and fireball makes sense. Evasion makes sense. Cue, change conception of fireball.. Done.. Evasion not bugging me. Game slightly better for me. Thank posters helping make game better. Ed...

About Evasion.. a lot of people seem to have no prob with it and Im thinking that their conception of a fireball is different than mine. I picture it looking like it did in Baldurs Gate: a moving wall of flames that went out 20 feet. If it actually looked like tendrils of flame, or better yet, flami...

They're very good. A lot of work here. Many options. Quite useful. Good eye for balance but not perfect (who is?).. I think it would work best as an entirely new 'book' with the typical 3 classes, even though this is not his intent. This is a lot to stack on top of current classes even if some of th...

Sorry to necro but I think this is a great idea that just needs implementation. a) The d6 can be rolled on a save but you lose the option on your next turn b) The damage option scales at the rate of the monks unarmed damage c) It doesnt replace iteratives and requires no action There. Wasnt that har...

Action Points. Spot on. Always hated the damn things and every game Im in someone really wants to do Action Points. Faith Points at least work a little better. Your God gives you a little help once in awhile. Then again, you probably shouldnt get to decide when to use them. The Sliding Toward 4th pe...

The reason I think evasion is dissociative (word?) is that the player couldnt explain it but the character could. The rogue couldnt really learn how to do it, as a mundane (ex) ability, if he didnt know how was doing it. Part of my point with this thread is to point out how good 3e was in regard to ...

I think that Evasion works as a magical (Su) ability.. a 'run between the raindrops' kind of thing. At that point though, you might wonder how the blinding quickness needed to dodge an explosion and take no damage wouldn't translate into something similar like dodging an attack from a weapon. Regard...

The reason I bring up two creatures in the same square is that I had to put two players in a square once in a game I DMed. Short version: Four medium creatures were fighting at the bottom of a 10 x 10 pit, 20 feet deep. The monk jumps into the pit. All four squares at the bottom are taken, I cant mo...
