ModelCitizen: I don't see how that fixes that "Tiefling Sorcerers are unplayable" problem, since it seems to make the problem many times worse; it looks like a lot of work for the designers; it exaggerates the culture/genetics confusion; making Humans special doesn't really have any justi...

Ok, suppose you wanted to a game where race = class, BECMI style, but it had occurred to you that it is retarded that BECMI won't let you play a spellcasting dwarf or whatever. You decide to give humans a bunch of classes and then make two or three for each other available race. Your class list look...

Errol Otis does overtimes with some of the bizarre critters, but in general they are all as faithful depictions as you're like to see, even if Yog-Sothoth is depicted as a sucker-footed giant worm-thin with more than vaguely-phallic tentacles molesting a princess. Sort of Lovecraft-meets-Alice in W...

Also, assuming that you character has the relevant five knowledge skills and can make the check is a pretty big assumption. No one uses the monster knowledge rules. Like, no one. Not even Lord "No MTP Ever" Mistborn. Those rules say you have to have ranks in Knowledge (Local) to have even...

Not sure if you're just restating of my point or if you're mistakenly trying to counter/correct me. The reskinned monsters that caused that one player of mine to quit was new stuff like Ether Hags & Space Gorillas, not an Ogre with a "Hello, my name is...Frost Giant" name tag. I've se...

more flailing When you fight a lv1 orc reskinned into a vrock because that was the only thing that fit into the DM's precious "story,"the illusion is completely shattered when you then go on to get your ass kicked by a group of non-reskinned manes. Same problem when you fight level 7 Demo...

Very few DMs are willing to go through everyone's character sheets and add up the exact value of all their items. However, a lot of DMs seem to be willing to roughly estimate the UMD-monkeys' expenses and hand out extra gold to compensate.

Ah this, I disagree. 1) FR is a warped setting no matter how you slice it 2) 20 levels are enough in my opinion and having the point where you gain acces to the multiverse be at the 50% mark seems fine to me. At level 9 the only reason that you can't decide the fate of nations is that there are DM ...

Fuchs, what's this really about? Your first post on this topic was YOU GUYS LIKE WARGAMES AND MMOS SO YOUR DUMB LOL which is an embarrassingly ineffectual insult that people on TTRPG forums use when they're too angry to think straight. You could make a D&D clone where the baddest dudes in the multiverse are level 7, but in that game there is no level 8+. Since this is a thread about Plane Shift we're talking about actual published D&D where Plane Shift and level 9 clerics exist, not fucking E6 or something.

I'm going to call this sort of thing a feature rather than a bug. The fact that going to Avernus at levels less than 7-9 is a death sentence is good thing. Leveling should expand your horizons and allow you to interact with the game in new and interesting ways. This is why 4e was such a disgrace yo...

If I had some kind of attachment to the idea that 3e rules make sense, I'd argue that it's impossible to have Nonlethal Damage : 0. Either you have Nonlethal Damage >= 1, or you don't have a Nonlethal Damage stat at all.

Not adventure in hell. Go to hell and fight demons. Remember we're talking about a very specific thing suggested by Orion a few posts up. You could totally run an adventure on Orthrys where you talk to the farastu instead of fighting them, you never go wading in the acid swamp, and the only combat e...

That's just an argument for the major parts of Avernus being a level 9 place, and vast majority of layers in the Outer Planes are individually infinite, allowing room for lesser threats. The Prime isn't described as a solely CR 8 playground because of the treants, elephants, illithids, and aboleths...

It would be nice to have a power level where PCs might take a portal to hell, and also be able to fight demons. You'll need to elaborate that further, because I'm not really seeing how the two are mutually exclusive. Ok, suppose you want to go to Avernus. The stock monsters there are abishai. Abish...

My problem with Plane Shift is it comes online too early. Level 9 PCs usually aren't dealing with the kind of fate-of-the-multiverse stuff that would call for plane-hopping to not be a big deal anymore. If you're in Forgotten Realms, level 9 qualifies you to fight over the fate of a single city and ...

In super specific, teleporting is not an ability that I'd consider nerfing. It doesn't add much to a monster's ECL. Personally I'd love to get rid of scry-teleport tag, which would probably require nerfs on the teleport side. Greater Teleport should be limited to "to the entrance of the dungeo...

Hrm. Someone here has to have a better 3.5 answer than Empowered, caster-level cheesed Prying Eyes?

While I see the possible value in rolled hitpoints for monsters only, I also know from my BECMI days that it's a bunch of work I don't want to fucking do. With fixed HP I can plunk down a bunch of monsters and only have to track HP for the ones that have taken damage. With rolled HP I have to stop t...

It sounds like the just dumped half the game and started over. Which is pretty weird, since I'm pretty sure their timetable calls for a release next year. The Trickster cleric has me laughing. The Dex/Wis cleric was pretty much the best thing already, so they are going to directly support it? And g...

The implication in 3.5 vampires are wrestlers instead of detached aristocrats probably counts as a feature, not a bug. Vampires in movies pretty much have to grab the victim to get their teeth into position, so I get why Blood Drain is tied to grappling. I'm just pointing out that it's hard to tell...

If this is a 3.5 question, the text of Blood Drain is pretty unclear on whether the vampire drains automatically each round it maintains a pin, or it has to make a special grapple check just to blood drain, or what. But regardless, Blood Drain is somehow connected to pinning and grapple checks so it...
