At least then we'd know all the information we'd (ahem) NEED to know about Tieflings.shadzar wrote:lets just hope the outcome is not FATAL for D&D when it arrives.

This post concerns me. Especially this: The Basic Mechanic for Challenges and Tests, then, is: D12 + Stat Die + Modifiers vs. D20. Actually, that looks like a slight modification of the Alternity rules, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. That said, I'm not much of a fan of using different dice fo...

Cosmic Patrol: Thoughts?
Noticed a while back that Catalyst released Cosmic Patrol, and was wondering what folks might think of it, or if anyone had a chance to play it.

[Historical Nitpick] Columbus's gamble wasn't that the world was round. The Greeks had figured that out and even gotten a pretty good measure of it's circumference. He posited that it was possible to sail from Europe to Asia in a reasonable timeframe with the technology of the time; as it turns out...

I always saw GURPS as an attempt to simulate a live action TV show or movie. So whether you wanted to to Lord of the Rings, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Heroes or Stargate SG-1 you could do it in GURPS. I think it's a little more useful than just TV shows, but I do see your point. I think you could do...

Bumped since I managed to find this critique of GURPS which I found somewhat entertaining: GURPS: the RPG of slow-motion combat between one-eyed sadists with no sense of smell Yeah, you could argue that if you're playing in a setting like Christopher Columbus, where everyone thinks that the world i...

What else do you want to know about? The combat mechanics? The magic/psionics/super-power systems? Equipment subsystems? First off, thank you. Yes, I did have some problems with the GURPS Skill system at first. Also, you're right on the one type of sword giving you a default on another type of swor...

The real strength of GURPS is the encyclopedic sourcebooks for everything. The level of detail and accuracy, while not always the best thing for games, is fascinating. GURPS sourcebooks work great as generic supplements if you ignore the rules. I agree, and have a whole shelf-full of GURPS source b...

The biggest problem with GURPS is this . That and despite having a combat resolution system so described and chargen so complex that it spits out sheets like this , it's actually pretty easy to die. That's a lot of work to go through to get impaled by a spear in your first combat and then have to s...

GURPS vs. Pathfinder / d20 / etc.?
I've read several threads on the problems / differences between Pathfinder / D20, and about the only conclusion that I've come to is that a lot of these problems seem to be addressed more elegantly in another system (like GURPS). So, donning my asbestos undies here, and asking the question: What's t...
