In GURPS, Body is used for tasks of physical strength, short-term and long-term physical exertion, and endurance. "Strength" and "Endurance" in that game are specialized advantages that take the form of Body with a disadvantage modifier for only applying to a limited subset of t...

There is nothing you could possibly do with "Constitution" that wouldn't be better in Strength or Agility. It's just an empty fucking concept. -Username17 -Run a marathon. -Pick yourself off the ground after a solid knock to the face -do 15 minutes in the ring with a trained wrestler -go ...

How is your tide of iron example any different from the 3.5 fighter tripping the monster, causing him to not be able to move to the ranger or forcing him to stand up and getting smacked in the face? The 3.x fighter needs to make an unarmed attack (provoking attacks of opportunity) and is at a serio...

Random thought. Since everyone who can takes Perception, and everyone that wants to Stealth takes it, would it be too bad to just cut those out of skills and base it on class level? Thus relying on ability mods, armor mods, and feats to make them different? I see this making Stealth harder since mo...

The Dresdenverse system has rather massive problems from a moral standpoint. For one thing, its full of loopholes big enough to slide a truck through and is highly gamable. Binder, for example, can have his pokemon rip people's heads off and rape cops to death left and right without collecting dark...

Why Mind Fog at all? Has anyone ever used that spell ever? For anything? Fucking with people's will saves is decent. ??? If they fail a will save, then they are more likely to fail future will saves. This is trash in combat, because if they failed the first save, you could already have them dominat...

Why are you banning Glitterdust, but not Color Spray, Stinking Cloud, Web, Sleet Storm, Deep Slumber, Confusion, Fear, Entangle, and Control Winds? If I had to guess, Glitterdust comes in early, has a decent range and the AOE is easy to use. Color Spray is only useful at lower levels and you have t...

Seriously, stop complaining that Wizards are powerful in a High Fantasy Game, at High Levels, and ask yourself, why did I make the fighters suck so hard, and why am I still trying to challenge Dimension Hopping Killers with Goblins in a brick dungeon. Let me put it this way. We have a level based s...

Re: Fixing Overpowered Spell Casters

Again it's a better solution to just do the e6 thing instead of trying to not let wizard be uber, or whatever. See that way if you want at certain story you can without all the pretense that you've "balanced" anything. Which is a joke, honestly yea, the monsters still rip the face off the...

That was your exact solution . It's not like he's putting words in your mouth. Jesus. Where did I say "the characters should be eternally hounded by outsiders in every game"? That was just a pithy response to Frank's "I manage to rest every day" pants on head retarded stuff. Pla...

So the solution to casters is 24/7 hounding by outsiders? I think that was already addressed by it seeming forced and dickish. That seems like a really specific solution to the problem. Why outsiders, and why only the casters? It's fairly easy to think up a story where there's a constraint along th...

And that's what makes it Phantasy Physics, btw. In the real world, weight is cubed but strength is squared when you scale up. Right, but big things in fantasy tend to be strong rather than worried about how they're putting their feet down because it's really easy to break a hip when you weigh that ...

The only meaningful limit on D&D Wizards is their cap on powerful actions between 9 hour rest stops. Making it "difficult to rest" not only feels forced and dickish, but is in most ways simply not credible. I manage to rest every day and I can't even transport myself across the contin...

That seems about right, although you should really be starting from at least 16 or so because they're not exactly proportional to a standard human, they're more built like bodybuilders. But the math seems reasonable, if very approximate. Those are the racial modifiers, not the actual ability scores...

I'm still not sure what your math is. Just curious. wouldn't it be wonderful, though, if Novembermike just rage quit? If their carrying capacity is proportional to their weight, they can carry (their density / human's density) * (their height / human's height) * (their width / human's width) * (the...

No one said 3 times as strong pound for pound you dumbass, until right now, because it turns out you are totally incorrect when we look at actual math and the actual Marvel lore, so you decided to just make shit up. Ok, I got a misquote on that, the actual thing is that they're three times as dense...

Actual numbers, cool. So frost giants have a heavy load of 300 pounds (average human Str 10, heavy load 100#). That means, accounting for large size (300/2, 150), Marvel frost giants have a strength of...13. So, Large size, +2 str, cold subtype... yeah, I'm thinking Marvel frost giants can totally ...

There are two major ways of doing it. Either you make sure everyone posts their actions and you roll the dice and get back to them the next day or you find a way to get everyone in Skype or IRC and use a map tool to play it out in real time. http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2...

On the other hand, handing out offensive penalties to people as they go down the condition track also reduces the effects of focus firing. Not to say that there aren't other ways to prevent focus-firing, it's just that this is the simplest and most obvious method. My question is, is the aggregate e...

Your jotuns are not hill giants in D&D. Your frost giants are not frost giants in D&D. They were not built to reflect each other. Judge a creature's CR based off of what it does , not what its name is or some vague approximation of strength. If there was a major difference between DnD Giant...

I would have put the Jotuns at CR3-4, Thor's Friends at level 6-7, and Thor himself at 10th/11th or so. Mjolnir is a (cursed)Hammer of Titan Strength, with some funky side abilities. Jotuns are at minimum CR7 if you use the Hill Giant for the template. CR 9 if you use the frost giant. Jotuns are ph...

This holds true for D&D giants, sure. But when applying D&D scale to other media, forget the monster categories. They don't apply anymore. Just because they called Goliath a "giant" in the Bible doesn't mean we'd stat him as anything other than a Human with really high STR and CON...

Your analysis hinges on the assumption that the frost giants are all level 6 Fighters. What on Earth makes you think this, when we have never seen them fighting any opponent who might offer a baseline or do anything except fight enemies whose level is currently called into question? Why can't they ...

DnD magic and magic items are broken. Simple as that. Fix those (mostly the items, but get rid of some of the retarded magic, such that Fireball is actually the reasonable combat option) and you'll fix fighters.

at least I actually look at the stats to do something. @novembermike, yes, I produced the minimum level. In absence of evidence that it can do anything more, I see no reason for it to have higher stats. Stop fapping over movie lines, Odin doesn't want to have to scrub your fanboy spunk out of his c...
