Lesson: Sometimes there's a dangerous place where people simply do not go. You might be a hero, but some of those places apply to you as well. Run your games with a much wider range of difficulties available to players and let them decide what is level-appropriate and what isn't. While in broad str...

Re: [Tome] AwesomeTome v2 clarification

I volunteer to wear that hat and run this thing organize this thing as outlined above. I'll be PMing people who have expressed interest in contributing to see if they're willing to go in with me in some sort of lead position, and to make sure they see this. Because if they're not willing to work wi...

No, we're not doing word docs. Word docs are not a valid submission format. Word docs are horrible. You can use plaintext or you can use bbcode (form-post formatted text) or you can use latex. Those are your options. Those are your only options. You can at least write your stuff as a form post, we'...

This is kind of a mediocre example. In Eberron, PC races are supposed to be divided along nationalistic lines more than racial lines (e.g. a halfling with roots in Aundair looks and acts like an Aundairian, not like a Talentan). That's like arguing that India is not an indian culture because there ...

Yeah Leress, but crpgs do a good job of showing how effective they are at making a game fun. If you're looking for grit as specific as spells you just aren't very good at learning things.

Ogrebattle's point about world-building is a very good one, especially in how effortlessly players get to experience a crpg's world. In a ttrpg we have to get creative with descriptions and really know what we're doing when it comes to delivering the right amount of the right stuff to enable players...

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4dreye/20121107 That artwork is fantastic, you troglodytes. As for the approach, I prefer where they're going with halflings this time around to what they did in 3e by making them look like elf pixies, and without much discernible difference between the...

Have your discussions elsewhere and limit them to just the people involved in the project. And if anyone new joins the project late in the game you don't let them restart old discussions, they get to be on the same page as everyone else has been for however long the page has been picked. And you re...

Re: Chobits...

I just finished watching Chobits. It was awesome. the final two episodes took me 6 views to absorb enough detail to feel satisfied. I've also just finished watching Love Hina and now I'm working on Mahoromatic. Anyone know of any of those drama type animes? My list is coming to an end. Being unfami...

Well thank you! As I said earlier, it wasn't my claim that Pendragon was anything, much less amazing or different, but that was the claim made by the panel. I appreciate learning something about the games at the time; I wasn't aware of p&prpgs at all until my late teens, aside from one kid on a ...

I could have said that better. "Bigger than one guy and his gear" wasn't meant to refer to the number or even the gear, but how the game was played. The point I was trying to get at was D&D and the other handful of competitors were mainly giving you a statistic-heavy chassis you could ...

It is difficult for me to imagine how "d20, roll under" could possibly be considered a "modern system". Seriously, if you're using the "default ability check" advice from Dragon Magazine in the 1970s as your core mechanic, you probably aren't a "modern system"...

One of the most exciting things I saw at PAX this year was Golem Arcana . It's a tactical miniatures combat game that uses microprinting on various surfaces (the map, the card with your figure's stats, etc) and a reader to interact with an app running on anything that can be connected via bluetooth....

It seems like it would be possible for a good writer to frame actual problems and functional issues with D&D in a way that the koosh-brained dweebs at the helm would understand as being problems with the "feel" and "impression" of the game. For instance: It is stupid that her...

I have the comfort that my group or anyone I play RPG's with, know that 5th edition is going to be trash, and won't play it. However, even I'm at a loss nowadays what RPG to suggest for new players. So much of D&D is so outdated, that I heavily desire one that's actually up to date in both desi...

Has anyone successfully converted that pdf into Word format? I can't be buggered to pirate the full Adobe suite just to convert a file into an editable state. I guess the latex files would work too, but honestly I would rather spend my time on the work rather than learning how to use another tool to...

That's pretty cool, Maxus. On my mother's side a couple generations back I'm a Walace, and I'm named William, which of course helped me enjoy Braveheart at a level most teenagers probably couldn't touch.

I played a one-shot at PAX last year, the Rob-who-isn't-Heinsoo ran it. I found most of the mechanics to be ignorable enough that I don't remember anything beyond that impression. But it had two good things going for it: 1. Your One Thing - this was a good chargen idea that is easily stolen for use ...

Wiltfong is non-ironically associated with awesome. Oh, well yeah! Bob's a distant cousin, down the line of a brother of my great-grandpa I think, or one more generation back. After seeing The Elder Scrolls Online at PAX this past weekend, I'm not sure which looks better. TESO plays a lot like Age of Conan-meets-early Star Wars Galaxies and feels like Skyrim with littler people and bigger terrain. That simplistic description of it makes it sound like crap, and it very wel...
