Torn on the issue. Clarifying questions on peoples opinions. I find the sword of omens. I'm an axe dude. Can I... Sell the Sword at the next town and buy an axe? Barter the sword for an axe? Give the sword to a dwarven lord to increase favor? In each of these scenarios, does the axe have to be objec...

Thanks for jumping on this one. Frank, it looks like your examples fall into the "You can buy 11 cans of coke a month" area. I have always understood abstract wealth systems to be "You can buy whatever you want so long as it costs less than 4" 4 being some ranking given to goods ...

BG is your best bet. Just be prepared to have very hostile arguements if you decide to not allow something for literally any reason. Also be prepared to be expected to rule strongly in favor of the players in any unclear rules situation. (Even in some clear rules situations that the players don't un...

A little pissed Shad made me actually log in to read the thread with his nonsense. Its clear he hasn't read any of the 3.5 books, let alone the rules in question. He has no interest in a legit conversation, and is just throwing statements around because he has a weird hate for the den. (I had to log...

An abstract wealth system would probably not satisfy these people. I had a post on how to have cake and eat it, but then realized I'm like Mr. McDuck. My big hurdle with d20 modern and other similar abstract systems is the idea that I can buy infinate cans of coke, but never afford a single 12 pack...

Almost as though PF did the exact opposite of everything needed for a successful revamp of 3.5.

Simple easy to remember and understand tiered skill system. 0-~ 0 is low. Go as high as you want. 0- Unfamiliar with the concept. 1- Seen it a few times 2- Done it before 3- Does it for money 4- Does it for lots of money 5- Top of human achievement 6- Magic and stuff. You buy ranks. No more ranks th...

You have played 3.5 before? Here is how a rundown of most pathfinder games go. You and your group decide to play PF. The DM shows up, and throws out your pages of 3.5 house rules that fit your group nicely. He then breaks out some other random house rules and asks that you learn these instead. You a...

You had two questions. Implied and asked. Implied - Do you get mad when DMs don't let you use internet stuff? - Not paticulalrly. Asking them to learn how it works, and what it does is extra prep time and if they don't have it they don't have it. Asked - Do you find DMs who don't know the rules. Con...

I think the favour on this flass is fucking retarded. Just saying. I think the crunch on this class is pretty awful too. Level 1 in the class gives you literally nothing but the ability not to leave that plane. Why specifiy alignment only to write "Varies". Waste of space and time. World ...

Raptors. I could get behind jurassic park raptors in a one off adventure of "Go steal the plans to clone raptors from this guy" and maybe the PCs encounter some. The idea of Raptors being in the setting any more than that doesn't really feel right to me. Maybe if you dumped them on a lost ...

Internet crow sourcing to make monsters. Also you write out the. Class and like 4 or 5 sample monsters for carrying power levels. Monster Classes are more streamlined than 3.x base classes. They get a neat thing at level 1 and 2 and then again very 5 levels or so. In-between is just number padding. ...

You have PCs and NPCs/Monsters on seperate tracks. Not in the 4e "Different systems" way. In the a segregated don't take this class sort of way. PC track is 1-10 (or whatever you like). NPCs is like 1-15ish. a level 1 PC is ~ level 3 NPC, and in your average challenge fights 3-4 level 1 NP...

I'm ok with 3-4 pages about a year in for each book. You can do less if possible. If you need more, find a method to condense it all, or cut some stuff. If you find stuff before that year deadline write it down for later. You can preview it on the website. "Hey we found this, we will probably c...

Now, I understand the typical argument(s) against dual-stat casting; however, in my experience, most of these seem to ring (at least a little) hollow. Yes, they are still able to do their broken stuff -- however, it's been my experience that if you can limit the # of times that broken stuff can be ...

To cut down on added complexity, you can tell people "If this is your first time, we suggest playing a standard race". It sucks putting options in a book and not letting people use them though. You could write the PHB I, and it will have 12 races and not mention multi-race-ing at all. Then...

For thematic "it's not dnd" reasons or for another reason. I ask because many of my homebrew games use this idea and I'd like to know of any downfalls if they exist.

Every race gets 8 things. (Pick a number you like) A half human/half orc gets 4 human things and 4 orc things. You want some elven thrown in there on the orc side and its 4 human, 2 orc, 2 elven things. All 8 things are equal, so it doesn't matter if they are balanced among one another. OR you prohi...

I think you need to keep dwarves out of the show as long as possible. They are one of my favorite races but the amount of "lol dwarves are short and drink lol " is too much. You couldnt do a scene where it wasn't present without people complaining. Including it then annoys everyone else. E...
