I understand you want something like this or maybe this. and even to a lesser extent this.

Actually as I post stuff I am more and more into this idea. Guitars and swords go well together, and are almost always badass.

You could do it if he were basically a rogue, but you show him playing a guitar whenever he gets down time, or is hanging in a tavern. When it comes time for battle, you can just play the songs in the background. What you can't do, is have him play a musical instrument in battle. People barely buy t...

It's frankly really bizarre that 4e didn't drop with a fully functional multiclassing system, because everyone is already on the same power schedule. All you had to do was make a 5th level power basically equal to a 5th level power and give people enough powers that they could still be identifiable...

Good things in 4e

Can anyone think of some stuff 4e did right? Something where there is a mechanic you enjoy using? At the moment I have one thing. XP budgets. Not looking for things it did better than other editions, just things that you enjoyed about it. You might be able to pull minions in as a concept, but I alwa...

Sadly, no. are all less playable and have more problems than 4e. Don't look at it as "how many bad things do they have" look at it as "how many good things do they have". With 4e the only positive I can think of is that they used the XP budget system instead CRs. Everything else...

I'm kind of curious why they think people would opt for fiddly, crunchy, detailed method if the simple option is just as good? Because it won't be. It will be like the optional magic items rules in dark sun. You can choose not to use magic weapons, and instead get these +xs you would get from those...

When people throw out new games, I want as many racial write ups as I can get. Why? Because the default setting is always awful. If I get lots of racial write ups, I can more easily adapt it to one that isn't so bad for. My adapted setting? Typically tops out at like 5 or 6 sentient usually good rac...

My solution for homebrew games was to top classes at 10 levels long. 10th level is the agreed upon highest level. If we decide we want to go past that, you have to multiclass which works essentially like 3e. You can be a fighter 10, wizard 5/fighter 5. At level 11 you can be a fighter 10/wizard 1, o...

I always liked the idea of forcing mundanes to become magic at some point. Hard code into the game fighting in melee isnt an option. You can start as a sworder, but by level 6 you need to prestige into dragon tamer, leader of the people,, or gadgeteer. If you really only want to play mundanes that's...

Obnoxious as anything to use. I've also got a d20 in the same ...

I'm trying to figure out why every setting must have orcs be as good at wizarding as everyone else. They don't. That said there is no reason a mechanical penalty to the race is the way to accomplish that. Watch. "In [krusk's fantasy world] orcs are rarely wizards. Orc society places a huge val...

The more common the items, the less impacting they have to be. If you give 1 item per party, it needs to be something like "This compass points to the nearest portal to another world. Also portals are everywhere but no one can see them and so they don't know to use them, or believe they exist. ...

Best system. 3e with no standard length on classes. A wizard is a 20level class, but a fighter is 6. Maybe a ranger goes out to 7 or 8. Prestige classes can exist as normal. If I remember right, in 4e everyone took the first multiclass feat. None of the feats are paticularly good and once you take f...

As much as I love the dog soldiers from RIFTS, I worry about animal human hybrids in the game. You end up stating loads of other animal human hybrids, and then every game turns into ninja turtles (which paladium already made). Not bad, but I don't see that as the end goal. If you only stat dogmen pe...

IIRC Dragons are under CR-ed because the game is dungeons and dragons . The designers wanted dragons to be something awe/fear inspiring, and so they purposefully made them stronger than indicated CR to reflect that. Stats wise its thanks to the fairly nice spellcasting, huge hit die, good bab and wi...
