I guess I heard their target originally as something where they say "these are the basic races ___, or if you want advanced races do this ___, and if you want complicated races do this___". for each module of the game. Races, skills, feats, stats, items, exploration, diplomacy, etc. EX: Ba...

What happened to their modular rules, dial a your own compelexity nonsense they were hyping before release? Did they ever officially give up, did that get released and i didnt notice, or did they just seriously say "feats are optional" and call it done?

From what ive seen, the people who didnt like 3e because its new and scary had a small adoption rate for 5e (20%?). The remainder of them are still way nostalgic about 2e, to the point that most people i know have one guy in their group who wont shut up about it. I havent seen or heard of anyone act...

Ari Marmell used to post online and discuss rules and stuff, until worc banned their writers from doing that sort of thing, under the name "mousefaratou". You could probably find some way to find posts by him places and form an opinion. I dont really have one, and while he did write shadow...

Can we talk for a minute about how insane the Republican party platform is? https://www.gop.com/platform/ . The preamble is nice. It still references romney/ryan and 2012. As though there hasnt been any major gop events since then. The link to download is also for the 2012 version. Seems kind of li...

If i am a level 4 wizard who got my 5th level, do i get powers from the wizard 5 chart and the prestige 1 chart, or just from the prestige chart? I was thinking the latter. But then you mentioned you were taking tome and existig classes as the base classes. And they generally go past 4. Also what ma...

Chamomile wrote:800 hexes is madness. A 6x6 hex crawl is your minimum. A 10x10 is probably wise to shoot for, particularly if it's your first time. A 15x15 is pushing the limits of good sense. 800 hexes is four times that size.
Thats also probably good advice.

Just wrapped up a year long hexcrawl. Answer is not really. After i populated with what i thought were enough cool adventures, we ran a session and i realized i needed at least 3x. From there, What worked best for me was to just buy a ton of monster manuals from various 3.5, pathfinder, and 3rd part...

I have honestly no idea what 5th edition D&D partisans would attempt to justify the game with, because that game has no fans. -Username17 Balance is impossible anyway, whats really important is that everyone has fun. And you can have fun with any mechanics if you are imaginative enough. So its ...

Clound giant castle in castles of the inner sea in pathfinder has one thats pretty cool. Its got a population and monster stats for the residents too which was handy. I was acually able to use it out of the box in a game im running.

All of my friends who have tried 5th Ed have liked it and switched to it. That represents people in 3-4 groups as there's some crossover between groups. Even when chatting to total strangers in the local RPG shop - people in my town at least really like 5th edition and it largely seems to me, peopl...

You need someone who can make decisions and end the endless debates of circles. Maybe you, maybe two or three people, but you need to figure that out.

Lets figure out diplomacy. Lets fight for 400 pages about diplomacy. Lets forget about this and go talk about other stuff?

If its just a genuine desire to play a game now and again I can get that. Unfortunately for you, that sounds like your option is "Play in a shitty game". I went through a similar situation the beginning of the year. I'm apparently the only one in my group who can DM a decent game (they all...

Memory lapse was great years later on an isecron scepter, because you could shut down anyone who didnt have a card draw mechanic on hand whenever you put it in play. they basically cant ever draw again.

Krusks Fighter

Wrote this forever ago as an offhand "Shut the fuck up about fighters". It sort of proved the point that just adding +A million damage doesn't matter, and ended a debate but that was about it. I relink it whenever I see a "We should give the fighter +X damage each attack" proposa...

I never really got that line of reasoning. If being the DM is such a vaunted and enviable position, then why does nobody ever want to do it? A ton of reasons. I'm not good enough/hes so cool, only he can DM. The existing DM won't let anyone else DM (I see this all the time) Wandering DMs looking fo...
