Re: Basic Feat Design Rules

I don't think that word means what you think it means. [br][br]I'm beginning to agree.[br][br]When you say that the only reason your characters would use one tactic when they could be using another is metagaming, I seriously question your usage of the word.[br][br]<Maj wanders off to begin a new th...

Re: What the hell is wrong with Cordell?

Hey, Frank. Thanx for starting this thread (and thank you to those who have responded) as it has given me lots of advice on how to keep my version of the prestige class from sucking.

Re: Non-Combat Spells

It doesn't sound to me like there is a magic item standard, Random Casualty. It sounds to me more like there's a gp standard, and since I have serious issues with the way the magic item pricing system works, I don't think it's a very reliable way of setting equivalencies. Especially because the cost...

Re: Basic Feat Design Rules

Well, this is why I think it's important that you limit such effects to magic only and not feats, because otherwise you're forced to have them reach stupid conclusions. [br][br]:freakedout:[br][br]They're stupid because... they're not right?[br][br]So long as there is a world where magic seems to i...

Re: Basic Feat Design Rules

Basically your character has to come to the in character conclusion that his enemy is at his strongest when a sword is being driven into his gut, and to do that you've gotta metagame, because no sane person would come to that conclusion. [br][br]I recommend you increase the Intelligence of your cha...

If there isn't a way to become a manifester, then I'd have to say that there should be an alternative gain - like a bonus feat or +1 to your attack or something.[br][br]The class was supposedly balanced to include the caster levels. Re: Why Improved Inititiative ?

Just to expand on the initiative thing a little... I build characters that fall into two groups: fast enough to kill the enemy before the enemy gets around to finding out that my character had Con as a dump stat, and those who don't care when they get hit.

Re: How Strong Are D&D Characters Compared to Real Superhero

Don't forget that when comparing a 20th level rogue to a 20th level wizard, the trick is who actually goes first. I'd say that Batman wins just by virtue of the fact that he has a high initiative.

Fix proposed for what happens when an epic level character takes a non-epic [custom] prestige class:[br][br]1) Balance the class as normal, including saves and BAB.[br][br]2) Take away saves and BAB.[br][br]3) As evenly as possible, distribute epic bonus feats (+1 feat for each high save granted by ...

Re: Working with the brokety de' broke ECL system.

ECL must be balanced on a scaling basis, Polymorph or not. Stats are only important at two points in the game: [br][br]1) When you're beginning and thus ability score iniquities make a big difference.[br][br]2) When you're really high level and everyone has the same uber gear, and thus ability score...

Just to point out: healing spells can be arcane. I know the bard sucks, but take a look at his spell list:[br][br] Cure Light Wounds[br]Remove Fear[br]Cure Moderate Wounds[br]Cure Serious Wounds[br]Remove Curse[br]Break Enchantment[br]Cure Critical Wounds[br]Neutralize Poison [br][br]While certainly...

Re: It's good to be a Wizard

I don't think it's fair to claim a separation of divine and arcane unless you also separate spellcraft into divine and arcane and the meshability of spells to deal with divine and arcane. In 3rd edition, a cleric can use his spellcraft check to figure out what spell a wizard is casting - which means...

Ahh... I haven't ever seen it be a problem in any of the games I've been in.

Re: The Difference Engine: Level Loss and Power

In 3rd edition, a character who is a couple of levels behind takes frickin forever to catch up. In the time the rest of the party gains one level, the guy 3 levels down picks up two. When the characters pick up another level - the character is two levels in the hole and picks up one and a half. Cat...

Re: Cheese Updates, 3.5

When I wrote up the monk the first time, the animated ability hadn't been rewritten to give out as per dancing , which means that if you played with shield bonuses (and we did), then a shield was negligible AC as well, because there was no reason for a monk to not have one.[br][br]I also don't under...
