The Cataclysm is complete ass but like a lot of total ass ideas there is a kernel of what could be a good idea. I barely remember anything about the Wall, and thinking about I realize that even when I was a kid and liked Dragonlance, it was so hard to give a shit about the religious aspects of the b...

Nice review, Libertad. It's definitely a cool book- it also made me think of the Ethshar stuff by Lawrence Watt-Evans, which hews pretty close to the expected fantasy TTRPG setting but fleshes out how magic would be used for commercial purposes if you take it to the logical extension.

virgil, I'm guessing you have the most experience playing/running this, could you give me your thoughts on the damage/stress economy? Is damage something that crops up as needing to be addressed frequently out in the field and stress more as a downtime issue?

A few observations from some vintage RPG stuff I've been idly reading. From the Menzobaranzan box set: -most single male drow get happy endings at massage parlors. -there is a very specific spell that gives you fake illusionary boobs on top of your regular boobs, but you can drop the illusion and sh...

Everyone is special a construct, Dash Den. Which is another way of saying that no one is. Seriously, though, why worry about the Construct type- all your different construct types take the place of player races, and... I don't honestly know much about Bioniclemando... are there non-construct people...

I had had high hopes for the Sphynx RPG, and now that I have gotten to read the English translation I am quite disappointed. The people who had played it years ago spoke highly of it having a unique research/investigation mechanic but it pretty much has no mechanics at all. It's a mother-may-I story...

Say what you want about something like the Fighting Fantasy book Sword of the Samurai, a product of late 80s orientalism (along with Oriental Adventures and billions of ninja movies), but at least there is a bunch of shit for a PC to do.

A couple thoughts. First, context is much better. Second, I feel like a lot of the context bits are really just moving the crunch vs. fluff slider, or toggling the meta switch, or reskinning fluff (the Monster Summoning/Call Pegasus Knights example). None of which are bad but I don't know that we ne...

I'm liking this so far. My anxious brain wants to see a couple points of similarity with my own heartbreaker, but the only one that actually has any substance is that I also have a Mimic class. In that case, though, the Mimic is the rogue variation for a demonic race. Hope you have more to post!

Good point! you should be able to get it during the adventure, but before you reach the conclusion. There is a lot of support for a training montage to develop the skill or talent you need; especially in cases where the protagonists initially suffer an apparent defeat.
