Speaking of awful RPG youtubers, are there any that are actually good? Instead of gross dudes who ramble about some philosophical game design concept they don't understand?

Assuming you mean simultaneous gunfights and hacking, I think the desire to emulate that is what drives people to make all the "cinematic" RPGs. I guess generally speaking that's also a movement to action economies that are more abstract and narrative?

I mean, this supplement is really 95 percent ass, and not the good kind. This weird OSR attitude where small HP and bullshit traps equals "tactical" and "gritty" gives me a goddamn conniption. I mean, if I ask two friends if they want to play Cops n Robbers and as soon as they ag...

One thing I thought of in my heartbreaker was an alchemical development that strengthened healing potions but spread a contagion with more and more stocks of potions and alchemy labs becoming contaminated. A cyberpunk setting could have all sorts of novel vectors like organ and cyberlimb replacement...

A good Lovecraft example is Detective Malone, protagonist of "The Horror at Red Hook". The story really seems to want us to think that Malone's pre-existing mental health condition is "being Irish."

I remember that cheezy Deadliest Warrior show testing the lethality of a Spartan shield and the result was that it was like being hit in the face by a car going 40mph. That sort of puts it into perspective when Captain America hits someone with his shield, increasing his body count over the years to...

Tavern Tales and its goofball resolution system

I know we all like to rubberneck when games have weird and/or shitty primary resolution mechanics. Here's one I happened on and while I'm not sure that I like it yet, it's... interesting. My one disclaimer is that overall it is very foofoo, but has enough mechanics for us to dissect. Actually, secon...

We've had a couple discussions (the Fallout comment above jogged my memory) about this and the main takeaway that I got was that specialized perks like "Gnollslayer" and "Born of Fire" are very cool but not if one PC has to kill 1000 gnolls or spend a year in the Valley of Fire. ...

Yeah, it's not the best Hammer or Shaw Bros but it's pretty fun. And seeing Peter Cushing do "kung fu" is worth it on its own.

Where to start with mechanics for a playtest?

Perpetual disclaimer: I know this has been discussed throughout the history of the Den and I have already considered things like the Same Game test. Searching for "playtest" is an exercise in futility even if you have a brain that is fully neurologically functional. So I ain't gonna do it...
